Miscellaneous papers kept by John Ceiriog Hughes comprising draft poetry, adjudications, correspondence, notes, and accounts; lawsuit papers, including a draft summons to Isaac Clarke, printer and publisher, of Ruthin, 1862, concerning inter alia the copyright of Oriau'r Bore; proof sheets of John Ceiriog Hughes's application and testimonials for an appointment as commercial traveller, 1871, and of the prospectus of the Mynyddog Memorial appeal, 1877; and a small poster advertising meetings of 'Cymdeithas Lenyddol Gymreig Manceinion', 1858, including lectures by John Hughes (Ceiriog) and William Williams (Creuddynfab).

Also included is a collection of seventy-two nursery rhymes, [1856x1857], some sixty of which appear in Oriau'r Haf (Wrexham, [1870]), pp. 21-47 passim (ff. 1-10 verso); and prose items including a speech on poetry for Cymdeithas Lenyddol Gymreig Manceinion, [?1858] (ff. 27 verso-34 verso), 'Pilsen i Ffarmwyr' (ff. 35-36 verso), and notes (ff. 23 verso, 26 verso). The loose papers include an incomplete list of Welsh airs, [1862], possibly in connection with the publication of Cant o Ganeuon (Wrexham, [1863]) (ff. 50-57), and invoices for the carriage of goods, 1874-1886, from the Van Railway Company (ff. 61-63).

Scrap book

A volume containing press-cuttings, consisting of adjudications, notes on old Welsh melodies, poems, etc., by Ceiriog; notes relating to Brinley Richards; accounts of various eisteddfodau, etc. There is one autograph poem entitled 'The train'. There are a few other papers including a telegram, 17 December 1855, asking Ceiriog to compose four lines for a memorial card from [?Roger] Edwards, Mold, a portion of a letter from Ceiriog to 'Alaw' and three autograph verses, [1860x1879].

Lewis Richards account book

Account book, 1840-1851, of [the Rev. Lewis Richards] of Llanerfyl, Montgomeryshire.
The volume also contains a few memoranda, as well as an 'Englyn i Barlwr y Parchg L. Richards' by Ieuan Cadfan [?Evan Breece], dated 6 January 1844 (inside front cover), and a verse by [John] Black[we]ll (on front flyleaf).

Poetry and prose pieces, mainly drafts, by John Ceiriog Hughes (ff. 5 verso-6 verso, 11 recto-verso, 25 verso, 27 verso-52), written in a volume previously used as a ledger, probably by a Yorkshire or Lancashire manufacturer or trader, 1833-1850, and containing particulars of financial and trade transactions and details of wages paid to weavers, 1834 (ff. 2 verso-30 verso).
Ceiriog subsequently repurposed the volume as a scrap book, pasting in numerous press cuttings and obscuring the original text. At NLW the cuttings were floated off and mounted in separate volumes (see NLW MSS 4552-3D).

Eisteddfod y Fottas

Poetical compositions, 1824-1827, submitted for competition at 'Eisteddfod y Fottas' (the Boot Eisteddfod), held by Cymdeithas Cadair Merthyr Tydfil at the Boot Inn (Arwydd y Fottas), Merthyr Tydfil, together with some adjudications (T9/1, 2 folders). Also included are copies, 1823-1827, of posters advertising the eisteddfodau (T9/2).
Taliesin Williams was secretary to Cymdeithas Cadair Merthyr Tydfil. Some of the compositions were printed in Awenyddion Morganwg; neu, Farddoniaeth Cadair Merthyr Tudful (Merthyr Tydfil, [1826]).

Notebooks and other volumes containing Welsh poetry, including drafts, fragments and notes, mostly by or in the hand of Taliesin ab Iolo (T6/1-22).
Seven volumes (T6/16-22) appear to been used by school pupils to copy out English poetry, later re-purposed by Taliesin for his own Welsh poetry.

Welsh poetry, including drafts, fragments and notes, mostly by or in the hand of Taliesin ab Iolo, comprising: loose poems which are either complete or relatively substantial (T7/1), with two further bundles of more fragmentary poems, drafts and notes (T7/2-3); three bundles of loose poetry retained in original order (T7/4-6); and items in hands other than that of Taliesin ab Iolo (T7/7).
