Letters, 1941-1977, from Kate Roberts, relating mainly to Wyn Griffith's translations of her works, but also containing some personal references. An envelope containing correspondence, 1969-1977, between John Jones Cardiff Ltd, the Welsh Arts Council and Wyn Griffith, relating to the translation of Y Byw sy'n Cysgu, is also included.

Manuscripts and typescript drafts of Wyn Griffith's translations, [1940x1950], of short stories by Kate Roberts, including 'The Death of a Story' ('Y Cyfarwydd'/'Marwolaeth Stori'), 'Christmas Journey' ('Nadolig y Cerdyn'), 'Final Payment' ('Y Taliad Olaf'), ['The Treasure'] ('Y Trysor'), 'Rhigolau Bywyd', 'Family' ('Teulu'), 'The Bride'; together with a translation of part of Stryd y Glep and a related letter, January 1950, from Kate Roberts. The manuscript of 'Family Likeness', a short story by Wyn Griffith, is also included.

Llythyrau Kate Roberts a Saunders Lewis

A letter, 5 September 1947, from Kate Roberts to Saunders Lewis (ff. 54-55), together with his reply, 9 September 1947 (f. 56, end lacking), concerning her forthcoming radio interview with him to discuss her writing technique.
The discussion was transmitted on the Welsh Home Service of the BBC on 15 October 1947 and a transcript was subsequently published in Crefft y Stori Fer, ed. by Saunders Lewis (Llandysul, 1949). The letters are published in Dafydd Ifans, 'Annwyl Kate, Annwyl Saunders - Atodiad', National Library of Wales Journal, 29 (1995-96), 341-345.

Seventy-three letters in Welsh, 1923-83, from the novelist and short-story writer Kate Roberts to Saunders Lewis, reflecting the growth of Kate Roberts as a writer and the early recognition and constant encouragement shown to her in her literary career by Saunders Lewis. Other matters discussed include the activities of the Welsh Nationalist Party mainly before 1945 and the state of Welsh literature in general during the period of the correspondence.

A notebook containing a manuscript poem 'Julian in Hercynia' by Edward Glyn Jones, Liverpool, together with a covering letter, 1923, sent by the poet to Saunders Lewis; and a child's story-book, comprising photographs and accompanying text, compiled by Kate Roberts for Mair Saunders Jones, 1930s.

A letter, dated 3 May 1972, from John Roberts, National Eisteddfod organiser (f. 68), and a Plaid Cymru circular letter, 7 June 1972 (f. 69), both addressed to Kate Roberts, and with notes on the verso of each folio in her hand relating to the early history of Calvinistic Methodism in Caernarvonshire, in particular Clynnog and Rhostryfan.
The notes appear to be taken mainly from W. Hobley, Hanes Methodistiaeth Arfon: [Vol. 1] Dosbarth Clynnog (Caernarfon, 1910).
