Biographical history

The Rev. Brynmor Pierce Jones, a native of the Rhondda Valley, was born in 1925. He was a teacher in Blaenau Ffestiniog and later a senior lecturer in Religious Knowledge at Caerleon College Gwent and afterwards he pastored at the Rogerstone Mission Hall. After retirement he took charge of four Baptist Churches: Upper Trosnant, Glasgoed, Little Mill and Raglan. Jones was the author of many books on revival among them are The King's Champions (1968; enlarged ed. 1986), The Spiritual History of Keswick in Wales (1989), Voices from the Welsh Revival (1995), and The Trials and Triumphs of Mrs Jessie Penn-Lewis (1997). He also published A History of Newport (1959).

Donated by the Rev. Brynmor P. Jones, in August 1997 and March 1998 and by his widow Mrs Rosalie Jones, 39 Pillmawr Circle, Malpas, Newport, per The Reverend Dr Noel Gibbard, Evangelical Theological College of Wales, Bryntirion, Bridgend, in February 2000.

Jones, mainly his research papers, including papers accumulated while researching Trials and Triumphs of Jessie Penn-Lewis (1997); papers relating to Evan Roberts, 1907-1924; the Llandrindod Wells Conventions, 1903-1911, and other conventions, 1902-1917; the 1904-1905 Revival; and miscellanea including the Gwent Welsh Baptist Association Records, 1800-1900, and research papers relating to The Spiritual History of Keswick in Wales 1903-1983 (Cwmbran, 1985).

Action: All records donated to the National Library of Wales have been retained..

NLW holds stray papers relating to Jessie Penn-Lewis (1861-1927) and Rev. R. B. Jones (1869-1933)in a number of archives. Audio cassettes relating to Brynmor P. Jones's research for his book, Voices from the Welsh Revival 1904-1905 (Bridgend, 1995), containing reminiscences of people who witnessed the 1904 Revival at Rhosllannerchrugog and Gwyddelwern, are in the National Screen and Sound Archive at NLW (CM9293-6).
