Flores Poeticae,

A transcript, with annotations, by John Lloyd James ('Clwydwenfro') of the Flores Poeticae of John Davies under the title 'Flores Poeticae: or the Poetical works of the late Rev. John Davies, of Glandwr and Moriah in the Congregational Union of the Welsh part of Pembrokeshire: Being copied from his own collection, in manuscript, by his disciple and admirer, John Lloyd James ('Clwydwenfro'), March, Cambridgeshire, 1897, Volume I'. The transcriber has added compositions of his own on matters connected with Ietwen, John Davies, and his children, and transcripts of other writings by John Davies. At the end of the manuscript is a Cardiff printed broadside 'Mynwent Hebron' by John Lloyd James, 1862.

Commonplace book

A commonplace book compiled by John Davies, 1821-1826, containing extracts, translations and original poems and meditations. His earliest compositions are signed 'J. G. Davies'. Much of the contents of this book was written during his stay at the Independent College at Newtown and some of the poems are located there, e.g. 'I lwyn o ddreinen wen ar lan Hafren dan yr hwn yr eisteddwn yn aml' and 'Ad Sebrinam'; and an imperfect copy, with manuscript entries, of Almanac a Dyddiadur Cynnulleidfaol am y flwyddyn 1848 ... gan Josiah Thomas Jones, Caerfyrddin.

Amrywion

A book of sermon notes, memoranda and draft poems written by John Davies during his stay at Newtown, 1824. Pp. 23-68, containing poems listed on p. 85, have been cut out of the book.
