Modus Tenendi Parliamentum,

Transcript, in two hands, of the first book of Henry Elsynge's 'Modus Tenendi Parliamentum [See NLW MSS 17023-24D and 17026D and BL Harleian Ms 1342], together with an index. According to the fly-leaf the volume had originally been intended to contain fA short view of the state and Condition of the Kingdoms of Ireland from the yeare 1640 to this Time'. Modus Tenendi Parliamentum,

Draft of a part of the fourth chapter of the second book of Henry Elsynge's 'Modus tenendi Parliamentum' [See [See NLW MSS 17023-25D and BL Harleian Ms 1342], together with an index. The fourth chapter is devoted to Judicature in parliament, and this volume deals with Judgements on delinquents. This volume was completed at Cornewell on 23 August 1627, and the index on the following August 30. [See also NLW MSS 16992B and 17034D]. Judicature in the House of Lords,

A copy of a tract entitled 'The manner how the L[or]ds doe resolue on their Judgm[en]ts', being part of the fourth chapter of the second book of Henry Elsynge the elder's 'Modus Tenendi Parliamentum' The Antient Method and manner of holding Parliaments. This tract was completed at Cornewell on 23 August, 1627. Paper; 13 pp., unnumbered; 302 x 198; unbound.

Parliamentary proceedings,

Account of parliamentary proceedings during the period 1627-1628 and 'many other affaires of state' during the period 1623-1626, together with an index. The volume is written in three different hands, although it is stated on the title-page and at the end of the index that it was transcribed by Tho. Lucas. The name of 'Richard Chaplein 1634 occurs twice on the fly-leaves. Paper; pp. 11 unnumbered, 1-655 (pp. 96, 594 omitted, p. 247 twice), 666 (for 656) - 691; 282x190; full sheepskin.

Works of Charles Hanbury Williams,

Collection of transcripts of odes, ballads, etc., by Sir Charles Hanbury Williams (1703-1759), satirical writer and diplomat. With one exception (NLW MS 17003D, pp. 14-16)these were published in The Works of the Right Honourable Sir Chas. Hanbury Williams, K.B (1822). Sir Charles was the son of John Hanbury, Fontypool, and was M.P. for Monmouthshire from 1734 until 1747. His daughter and co-heiress Frances married William Anne Holies Capel, 4th Earl of Essex. A note by Albert Addams-Williams on the fly-leaf of NLW MS.17003D states that these two volumes were purchased at the Earl of Essex's sale. Inserted in MS. A.46 is (1) a description of the volumes in the form of a sale catalogue cutting and a letter, dated December 19, 1922, from llessrs. Pickering and Chatto, from London, to Major Albert Ad dams-Williams at Llangibby Castle, acknowledging the receipt of the purchase money; and (2) a portion of the ? autograph manuscript of 'An Ode from L[or]d Bath to Ambition' [See Works, Vol.1, pp. 157 et seq]. Three composite volumes containing the minutes of the House of .Lords during the periods 30 January 1727/0 – 28 May 1728, 21 January 1723/9 – 14 May 1729, 13 January 1729/30 -15 May 1730, 21January 1730/1 – 7 May 1731, and 16 January 1732/3 – 12 June, 1733; together with printed copies of the King's speech to Parliament, 16 January 1732/3, Parliament's address to the King and the King's reply, 17 January 1732/3, and Parliament's address to the King and the King's reply, 9 May 1733. The pagination is misleading, because it refers to the days of session under which the minutes are separately arranged. Transcripts, in two hands, of Acts of Parliament of the period 1547-1600; an account of proceedings in the House of Lords upon the impeachment of Lord Clarendon, 1663, 'Remembrances for Order and Decency to be kept in the vpper House of Parlyament by the Lords' [after 1675], and extracts from the roll of Parliamentary Judgements, 1620/1 - 1622; together with a list of contents, which is in the same hand as that of NLW MS 17035D. Life of Agesilaus,

Unpublished autograph manuscript entitled 'The lyf of the good kyng Agesylayus wretten by the ffamvs Clerke Plutarke in the greke tovnge And traunslatyd out of Greke into latyn By Anthony Tudartyn And drawen out off Latyn into Englysche By me Henry Lord Morley and dedycat vnto the Right honorable Baron the lorde Croumwell Lord Pryvy Seall'. The translation is followed by 'The comparacyon of oure most Dere end Gratyovs Sou'ayne lord kyng Henry [VIII] to this Agesylayus kyng of the lacydymones'. Preceding the translation is a draft of a letter, dated 20 November 1602, from William Kenrike, clerk of the Court of the Council in the Marches, from Ludlow, to Edward L[a] Zouche, Lord President of the Council: The writer presents this volume to his lordship 'insted of other p'sents', and expresses the opinion that it is 'the verey same booke that was ffirst dedicated and p'sented'.
