Collection of transcripts of odes, ballads, etc., by Sir Charles Hanbury Williams (1703-1759), satirical writer and diplomat. With one exception (NLW MS 17003D, pp. 14-16)these were published in The Works of the Right Honourable Sir Chas. Hanbury Williams, K.B (1822). Sir Charles was the son of John Hanbury, Fontypool, and was M.P. for Monmouthshire from 1734 until 1747. His daughter and co-heiress Frances married William Anne Holies Capel, 4th Earl of Essex. A note by Albert Addams-Williams on the fly-leaf of NLW MS.17003D states that these two volumes were purchased at the Earl of Essex's sale. Inserted in MS. A.46 is (1) a description of the volumes in the form of a sale catalogue cutting and a letter, dated December 19, 1922, from llessrs. Pickering and Chatto, from London, to Major Albert Ad dams-Williams at Llangibby Castle, acknowledging the receipt of the purchase money; and (2) a portion of the ? autograph manuscript of 'An Ode from L[or]d Bath to Ambition' [See Works, Vol.1, pp. 157 et seq].
