Fifty-three files of unbound material accumulated by Bradney during the preparation of A History of Monmouthshire and containing press and proof copies, transcripts and abstracts of, and extracts from, manuscripts, deeds and documents, holograph and autograph letters, pedigrees and genealogical notes, press cuttings, etc., generally arranged under parishes. Much of the material is in the autographs of friends and official copyists. This volume contains letters, 1909; manuscript and typescript extracts from the parish registers of Aberystruth, 1696-1779, Llantarnam, 1725-1726, Llanfrechfa, 1725-1777, Panteg, 1736-1756, Bedwellty, 1813, Llanvillo (Brecknockshire), 1710-1873, and Llangors (Brecknockshire), 1755-1907; 'cywyddau' of Monmouthshire interest by Hywel Dafydd, Meurig Dafydd and Sion Mawddwy, transcribed by T[homas] C[hristopher] Evans ('Cadrawd') and Lemuel [John Hopkin James], Ystrad Mynach; and a list of poems by Dafydd Benwyn, with their first lines, in the autograph of 'Cadrawd'.

A volume of transcripts of miscellaneous poems in English, Latin, and Welsh. The Welsh verse consists of one 'cywydd' each by Davydd Nanmor, Gr[uffydd] ap Ieuan, Iolo Goch, Ll[ewely]n ap Holl ap Ieuan ap Gronwy, and Mredydd ap Rys, and some thirty 'englynion', all anonymous except one which is attributed to Gruffith Llwyd. A composite volume, the contents being: ff. 1 recto-26 verso , 'Llyfr Barddoniaeth. sef y Gelfyddyd o ganu Cerdd Dafawd yn dda. O waith Gwilym Ganoldref. O Wynedd', i.e. William Midleton (the transcript, which is in the hand of 'Iolo Morganwg', is said on f. 25 verso to be copied 'o Lyfr Ieuan Tir Iarll, sef Sion Bradford', and appears to be similar to that found in NLW MS 13096B (Llanover C. 9.), pp. 201-35; there are references to the text published in Dafydd Lewys, Flores Poetarum Britannicorum . . . (Mwythig, 1710), pp. 59-80, on ff- 3 recto and 7 recto; 'Iolo Morganwg' dates his 'Rhagysbysiad' on f. 2 recto as follows: 'Trefflemin ym Morganwg Chwefror yr ail, 1806', and a note on f. 1 recto, 'For Mr. Wm. A manuscript volume bearing the words 'MABINOGI PWYLL' in gold lettering on the spine. The volume, which is written throughout by William Owen [-Pughe], contains transcripts, probably from 'Llyfr Coch Hergest', and English translations of 'Pwyll Pendefig Dyfed' (pp. 11-79), 'Branwen ferch Llyr'(pp. 80-1153), and 'Manawydan fab Llyr' (pp. 154-217), with the beginning only of 'Math fab Mathonwy' (pp. 218-23). Among miscellaneous entries at the end of the volume are: p. 224, a list of the descendants of Morien Glas; p. 226, couplets from the works of Guto y Glyn, Mathew Brwmfild, and Rhys Penarth; pp. 227-8, a synopsis of the tale of 'Branwen ferch Llyr'; p. 232, 'Names among the Lakes of Cumberland Westmoreland and Lancashire - Wordsworth's Scenery'; and inside the back cover the note: 'Cyrhaeddwn dy y P. W. Coxe, Bemerton, D. Llun, July 26, 11802, gan gerdded D. Sul o Southampton i Gaer Sallawg i gysgu'.

A collection of 'cerddi', 'englynion', and 'cywyddau', written about 1800, including poems by John Griffith, Llanddyfnan, John Dafydd Laes (Bardd Nannau), Thomas Prys (Plas Iolyn), Lewis Glyn Cothi, Siôn Tudur, Jonathan Hughes, Llewelyn ap Guttyn, Telynior Llwydiarth, Ieuan Fardd, John Rhydderch; 'caniad Mair' and 'Caniad Simion'; 'Cyneddfau amryw barthau Cymru'; and a copy of an inscription on the tomb of Mo: Lloyd, Cerrig Ceinwen, 1647.

Notes on Latin philology and a transcript of a cywydd by Tudur Penllyn.

A collection of 'cywyddau' mainly of a vaticinatory nature. The poets represented are Ifan ap Rhydderch ab Ifan Llwyd, Llywelyn ab Owain, Robin Ddu, Dafydd Llwyd ap Llywelyn ap Gruffydd, Dafydd Gorllech, and Gruffudd ap Llywelyn Fychan.

Two fragments (pp. 170-94 and 107-32), the first containing copies of 'cywyddau' by Iolo Goch and Dafydd Llwyd ap Llywelyn ap Gruffudd o Fathafarn, and the second containing a brief vocabulary (Sae to Silltaerau); an extract from a letter written by John Jones, Dyfynog, to Edward Lhwyd, 10 May 1706, with copies of enclosures ('Bonedd ac Anfonedd'; 'Achoedd Syr Rhys ap Thomas, a list of owners of manuscripts); and 'cywyddau' by Dafydd Llwyd ap Llywelyn ap Gruffudd and Iolo Goch.

A fragment (pp. 21-8, 33-8, 52-7, 62-3, and four unnumbered folios) of a manuscript collection of Welsh poetry including the end of an ode by Richard Cynwal, 1632, and 'cywyddau' by Siôn Cent, Moris Roberts, Ellis Rowlant, John Davies, Rowland Price, Dafydd Nanmor, and Siôn Phylip.

A volume containing transcripts of Welsh verse in strict metre (consisting mainly of 'cywyddau') transcribed, October [18]89 - February [18]90, by I[saac] F[oulkes] [newspaper proprietor and publisher]. Many of the poems are annotated to indicate that they were copied out of a volume in the possession of 'W.J.' of Llangollen, and the whole work appears to be an incomplete transcript of NLW MS 670D, which itself consists of a collection of Welsh poems transcribed by William Jones ('Bleddyn'), antiquary, local historian, etc., of Llangollen. The poets whose work is represented include Gwerfil Mechain, Howel Dafi alias Hywel ap Dafydd ap Ieuan ap Rys (Bardd Raglan), Sion ap Phelppot, Robert ap Dafydd Llwyd, Iorwerth Fynglwyd, Dafydd Llwyd ap Llywelyn ap Gruffydd (o Fathafarn), John ap Howel ap Tudur, Huw Cae Llwyd, Lewys Daron, Bedo Brwynllys, ? A note on p. 123 indicates that three 'englynion' by [Thomas Edwards] 'Twm o'r Nant', which were to be found at this point in W[illiam] J[ones]'s volume [NLW MS 670D], had not been copied by the transcriber, as he intended including them in a proposed new edition of that poet's works, to be published by him in 1889. A second note on the same page indicates that, similarly, fourteen 'cywyddau' by Tudur Aled had not been transcribed in the present volume, but had been copied into another book, with the intention of publishing these and other poems by the same bard, together with poems by Guto'r Glyn and Sion Tudur. In fact, fourteen 'cywyddau' and four other poems by Tudur Aled, and all of the poems by Guto'r Glyn and Sion Tudur, which appear in NLW MS 670D, have been omitted from the present volume, the presence of poems by the two latter bards in NLW MS 670D being usually indicated by the transcriber by quoting the title, or title and first line, of such works. A note on p. 153 states that eighty ' cywyddau' by Dafydd ap Gwilym [which appeared in William Jones's book, i.e ., NLW MS 670D, pp. 149-263], had been used to correct the published edition of that poet's work ('Yma daw LXXX Cywydd o waith Dafydd ab Gwilym, y rhai a ddefnyddiwyd i gywiro ei waith argraffedig'). These eighty poems, and also five retaliatory poems composed by Gruffydd Grug, in a poetic contention with Dafydd ap Gwilym, and found interspersed among the eighty 'cywyddau', have been omitted from the present volume. A further note on p. 264 states that the last three 'cywyddau' [in NLW MS 670D] had not been copied, as the transcriber believed the text to be so corrupt, that they did not merit transcription. A fly-leaf is marked 'Bk i', and this possibly connects the volume with NLW MS 19313, which, marked on a fly-leaf 'Bk ii', consists of a similar volume of Welsh verse transcribed, March - April [18]90, by I[saac] F[oulkes], again, by inference, from a book in the possession of W[illiam] J[ones].

The work was awarded the prize and a gold medal at the National Eisteddfod at Carmarthen, 1867. Owen'); extracts from documents relating to places in the town and county of Carmarthen; the parliamentary representation of the town and county of Carmarthen; an abstract of a charter of King Henry III to Meredydd ab Rhys, 1257; a rent-roll of the town of Carmarthen, 1575; extracts from Leland's Itinerary; excerpts from the Liber Landavensis and The Book of St. Chad; a chart of the genealogy of the Welsh Princes; transcripts of oaths of the mayor, bailiffs, and constable; a transcript of a 'cywydd' written by Griffith Llwyd ap David ab Einion Lygliw on the trial of Morgan ab Davydd ab Llewelyn of Rhydodin (Edwinsford) in Caio, circa 1390, with an English translation; an English translation of the charter granted by Sir Guy de Brian, kt., to the burgesses of Laugharne (early 14th cent); and an 'Index to the County'.
