Barddoniaeth,

A composite volume containing transcripts of miscellaneous Welsh poems, some incomplete, in free and strict metre. The original, brown, paper cover is inscribed 'Amryw Gerddi, Cywyddau, Awdlau, &c., o waith y Beirdd. Date 1766', and the contents include free-metre verse ('cerddi', etc.) by 'Brys Bras Brwnt', Robert Williams, Robert Roberts, Dafydd y prydydd Hir (o Lan fair Talhauarn), Maurice ab Robert, Evan Ellis, John Cadwaladr, Hugh Jones (Llangwm), Rouland Jones (? of Pandy, Llanuwchllyn), Rees Jones, and Thomas Edwards; 'cywyddau' by Rice Jones, Edwart Rouland, Griffith Philip, Thomas Prys, Lewis Morice, Richard Phylip, Hugh Lloyd Cynfel, 'Y Cardwr Du', Dafydd ab Gwilim, Siôn Tyddur, Ellis Rowland, John Dafis, Morys Dwyferch (sic), and Richard Edwards; and 'englynion' by Hugh Jones (o Langwm).

Barddoniaeth John Williams, Dolgellau,

A volume described on f. 1 as 'Llyfur O gwyddau (sic) ag awdlau Ag Englynion Diwiol a Dyfysionol O waith John Williams [?'loan Rhagfyr'], Hetiwr o Ddolgelley'. The contents consist of Welsh poems, 1763-1764 and undated, by the said John Williams, all the compositions except one being in strict metre. In addition to the religious and devotional poems referred to in the superscription on f. 1 there are several poems of a secular nature including 'Cywydd I ofyn Coat I Mr. Edward Roberts o Hendre'r Coed Tros Ellis Pritchard', 'Molad Meirion ', 'Englyn I Gastell Harlech', 'Cywydd I annerch John Richard, Bardd Ieuangc yn Nyffryn Ardudwy', 'Cywydd I ofyn Coed Gwydd I Mr. Dafydd Lewis o fron wion Tros Robart y Panwr', and 'Cywydd I Annerch Ellis Roberts o Lanrwst'.

Poems by Jonathan Hughes (1721-1805), with a few by D.E. Arthur Jones, John Jones (Llandynan), and David Thomas (Dafydd Ddu Eryri). Most of the poems by Jonathan Hughes are printed either in Bardd a Byrddau ... (Mwythig, 1778) or in Gemwaith Awen Beirdd Collen ... (Croesoswallt, 1806).

' Y Gell Gymysg',

A miscellany of prose and verse lettered 'Pigion' but known as 'Y Gell Gymysg', most of it in the hand of Thomas Evans ('Tomos Glyn Cothi'), minister, poet and author, but with 'Trioedd yr Offeiriad', on pp. 209-14, by and in the autograph of Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg'). Also included are poems by Edward Richard, Ystrad Meurig, William Moses ('neu Gwilim Tew, o Glyn Tâf'), Howel Prichard, Edward Evans, Ton Coch, Lewis Hopkin, William Harr[i], Llwyn-onn, William Davies (alias 'Wm. Dafydd Abercwmyfuwch, Gerllaw Pen y bont ar ogwr'), David Davis, Castell Hywel, Lewis Williams ('y Bardd Bach'), Jonathan Hughes, Huw Mor[y]s, Huw Gruffydd ('Gynt o Lwyn y brain Meirionydd'), John Jenkins ('Sion y Bardd bach Aberteifi'), Rees John, 'Weaver', John Howels, J. Two tune books now bound as one volume, the first (ff. 1-16) probably compiled in the late eighteenth century and the second (ff. 18-42) by 1800, containing hymn-tunes and psalm-tunes, together with a few englynion and other verse in Welsh (ff. 18 verso-20), and various memoranda.

A mutilated manuscript of John Jones ('Pyll Glan Conwy') containing arithmetic and numeration rules and exercises, and a few transcripts of Welsh poetry (among them a fragment of the interlude 'Pedair Colofn Gwladwriaeth' by Thomas Edwards, 'Twm o'r Nant') and collects.

An imperfect volume of medical and veterinary recipes. A few 'englynion', in the hand of David Jones, Trefriw, have been entered on the blank space of one page. Also bound in the volume is a text of 'Cerdd Elix Euron' ('nis gwn i pwy ai gwnaeth').

An imperfect volume of free-metre poetry ('cerddi', 'dyriau', and 'penillion') by William Pellis (1704), Dafydd Manuel, John Rhydderch, Ffoulk Lloyd, Hugh Roberts, Kyffin Caerfyrddin, Huw Morys, Richiart Abraham, Robert Humphreys ('o Ragad'), Edwart Rolant, and Thomas Jones, together with some minor later additions. The volume was written during the period 1702-1709 and is in the hand of Hugh Roberts, 'wevar by trate', 'of tan rogo' ('Trigfannol tan rogo yn aber Geley dinbuch'). The manuscript also bears several later names, such as Hugh Jones (1773, 1779), David Williams (born 1779), William Ouan(e)s (1778), 'Hughs Hughs', Llandrillo, Thos. Hughs 'of Llwydga', Wm. Evanes of Nant ycha', Robert 'Highs' (1734), etc.
