Letters to Meic Stephens

Over a hundred and fifty letters, 1961-88 in English, Welsh and French, from various correspondents (surnames Jones-W). The letters, some of which include fair copies of published poems, are chiefly concerned with contemporary writing in Wales in both English and Welsh and with the recipient's work as editor of a number of volumes in this field. The correspondents include Glyn Jones (36, and three poems) 1967-86, Gwyn Jones (6) 1967-87, Saunders Lewis (1) 1974, Roland Mathias (17) 1961-86, Leslie Norris (32, and one poem) 1967-86, Eigra Lewis Roberts (2) 1970-3, R. A notebook containing transcripts by D. Myrddin Lloyd of over eighty poems by Robert Williams Parry, mostly composed between 1924 and 1948, many of which later appeared in Cerddi'r Gaeaf (Dinbych, 1952). Details of date and place of first publication are appended to most of the poems.

Poetry by, and in the autograph of, the Reverend H. R. Williams ('Llwydrudd'), Corris, and press cuttings of some of his works, including an essay on old Merioneth poets ('Hen Feirdd Meirion'). Among the poems is an elegy entitled 'Pryddest Goffa i'r diweddar Mr. Richard James, Painter, Talybont', submitted to an eisteddfod held at Tabernacle Baptist Chapel, Tal-y-bont, Cardiganshire, 1925.

A group of fifty-four holograph letters, 1929-1932, from Thomas Jones, Cerrigellgwm[-isa], Ysbyty Ifan, Denbighshire, to Evan Roberts, Llandderfel, Merioneth, relating to the writer's literary and musical pursuits. Some letters refer to the Welsh ancestry of Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States of America. Also included in the collection is a holograph letter, 15 November, 1932, from Einion Jones, Cerrigellgwm-isa, to Evan Roberts, enclosing a pedigree of his father Thomas Jones and a copy of the latter's last poem.
