Biographical history

Thomas Evan Nicholas (Niclas y Glais, 1878-1971), poet, was born in Llanfyrnach, Pembrokeshire. He became a prominent Welsh speaker and writer for the Independent Labour Party. His political views caused him to be imprisoned on false charges at the beginning of the Second World War.

This collection includes poetry written while Nicholas was imprisoned in Swansea and Brixton, 1940, together with letters, 1910-1914, to Nicholas, and a translation into English, [c. 1910], of Nicholas's poem Sarah.
