A manuscript in the hand of David Richards ('Dewi Silin') containing transcripts from Edward Williams ['Iolo Morganwg']: Poems, Lyric and Pastoral, Vol. II (London, 1794), pp. 217-37, of 'An Account of, and Extracts from The Welsh-Bardic Triades', 'Trioedd Braint a Defod', with an English translation entitled 'Institutional Triades', and 'Trioedd Barddas' (incomplete). Beginning at the end are an account of the city of Jerusalem ('History of the Roman Empire', vol. 2, p. 388), dissertations on 'The Resurrection' and on the Principles of Toleration, and extracts from the Salopian Journal, 24 August, 30 November 1825.

A manuscript in the hand of David Richards ('Dewi Silin') containing transcripts of John Davies: A Display of Herauldry (Salop, 1716); 'cywyddau' and 'englynion' by Hugh Morys; 'Edeyrn Dafawd aur' (see Cwrtmawr MS 233); 'cywyddau' by Ieuan ab Hywel Swrdwal and Gruffudd ab Ieuan ab Llywelyn, and 'Chwedl Rhitta Gawr' from a transcript by Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg') of a manuscript of James Davies ('Iaco ap Dewi'); a 'Letter from Mr Owen [William Owen-Pughe], Author of the Welsh and English Dictionary, containing Remarks on the Structure of the Welsh Language, and on the Characteristic of the Gwentian Dialect ...', printed in William Coxe: An Historical Tour in Monmouthshire, part II (London, 1801), pp. 405-7; and 'cywyddau', an 'awdl' and 'englynion' by Hugh Morys, Jno. A volume, c. 1789-1801, containing Welsh medieval prose texts and later verse, mainly in the hand of Owen Jones ('Owain Myfyr', 1741-1814). Other hands include Hugh Maurice (ff. 64-74) and Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg') (ff. 110v-11v). The prose includes texts relating to cerdd dant, copied mainly from 'Llyfr Rhobert ap Huw o Fodwigen' [BL Add. MS 14905]; 'Cato Cymraeg', 'Ystori y Llong Foel', 'Breuddwyd Paul Abostol' and other texts, 'o Lyfr Mr Thomas or Gest yn Eifionydd Mehefin 1777' [Richard Thomas (1753-80)] (ff. 14-33); 'Y Diharebion Cymraeg' (ff. 66-79); 'Y Pedwar Brenin ar ugain o'r Brytaniaid ... allan o Lyfr Havod Uchdrud' [? Havod MS 5] (ff. 112-23); and 'Llyma val y descennodd Pendevigaeth Gymru yn oes Vaelgwyn Gwynedd ...' 'Tomas Wiliams o drevriw allan o hen vemrwn a gawsei y cof hwnn' [NLW MS 16962] (ff. 131v-6). The verse includes 'Casgliad o Benillion o waith Anonymows', collected by William Jones, Llangadfan (ff. 79v-110). Tipped into the volume are a list of contents compiled by Griffith Hugh Jones ('Gutyn Arfon'), a note on the above collection of penillion, and two letters to 'Gutyn Arfon' from O. M. Edwards, 1900 (f. v), and Robert David Rowland ('Anthropos'), 1903.

A small volume written in the eighteenth century lettered on the spine 'Llyvr Dos=parth a Cadwe= digaeth Cerdd Dannau, I'. The scribe was David Jones ('Dewi Fardd') of Trefriw. The contents are as follows: pp. 1-23, 'Clod Cerdd ai Dechreuad' beginning 'Fy Mryd sydd ar hyn om llafur ddwyn ar ddeall it Darllewr . . . Eithr o arfer Cerdd Theoricall y Nef, ni ymadroddwn am dano' [cf. B.M. Addit. MS 14989, ff. 82 recto-111 verso, and also D. The work is mainly that of William Davies, Cringell, but with additions by Richard Bevan and Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg').

Two volumes of miscellaneous transcripts mainly in the hand of Walter Davies (Gwallter Mechain, 1761-1849), relating to the antiquities, history, topography, language, and literature of Wales. They include catalogues of Welsh manuscripts; transcripts of manuscripts of Evan Evans (Ieuan Brydydd Hir), of letters of Edward Lhuyd, Lewis Morris, Goronwy Owen, etc., of Strata Marcella abbey charters, of monumental inscriptions, of Evan Evans's transcripts of Richard Farrington's archaeological notes, etc.; notes on Llanerfyl, Llangadfan, and Garthbeibio, written by William Jones, Llangadfan, and sent by him, with letters, to Walter Davies; a letter, 1792, from Edward Williams (Iolo Morganwg) to Walter Davies; an extract, by Lewis Morris, from his Celtic Remains; Marwnad Lewis Morys ... by Goronwy Owen, in the autograph of Evan Evans; etc. Both volumes are indexed.

Medical prescriptions, etc.

A late eighteenth and early nineteenth century manuscript of Thomas Davies containing medical recipes and prescriptions, notes on the treatment of diseases and on the virtues of herbs, and a few miscellaneous notes and extracts. The contents have been taken for the most part from printed sources but a few isolated prescriptions are ascribed to Jno. Morgans, surgeon, of St Davids, 1808 (p. 346) and Mr [Thomas] Jones, Neuaddfawr [Lampeter, Cardiganshire] (pp. 349, 357). Among some extraneous matter in the volume are 'Trioedd Offeiriaid' in 'triban' metre by Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg') (pp. 351-4) and a transcript of a Carmarthen Bank note, 1802. There is an incomplete index at the end of the volume.

A composite volume, originally owned by Owen Williams ('Owain Gwyrfai'), Waun-fawr, with copious insets, containing a folio (pp. [655]-656) from Baner Cymru, October 20 1858; a section ('Ordevices', cols 777-840) from William Camden: Britannia (? 1722 edition) with a map of North Wales by Robt. Norden (? from the 1695 edition); two keys to 'Coelbren y Beirdd', the one undoubtedly and the other probably in the hand of Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg'); extensive transcripts of Caernarfonshire and other North Wales pedigrees, mainly in the hands of Owen Williams and John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd'); and imperfect notes relating to the history and endowments of the Free School, Dolgellau.

Cringell Collectanea

Glamorgan collectanea of William Davies, Cringell, near Neath, with genealogical lists, etc., by G. T. Clark. They include a certificate recommending David Davies, son of David Davis, Castell Hywel, 'to the Work of the Ministry among Protestant Dissenters'; a transcript, apparently from a transcript by Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg'), of 'Achau ac Arfau Prif Fonedd y Cymru. Dadyscrif o Lyfr Dû Pant Lliwydd - Eiddo'r diweddar Mr. Thomas Truman, 1806'; 'Extracts from an old Genealogical Manuscript the property of Griffith Llewelyn Esqr of Baglan Hall which appears to have been written about the year 1584, and has the name of Thos Wilkins, LL.B of St. Mary Church written on one of the blank leaves'; genealogies of Glamorgan families; notes on the ecclesiastical history of Gwent and Morgannwg; notes on the natural history and topography of Glamorgan; biographies, including one of Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg'); notes on Glamorgan manors; notes on political history, etc.; and letters, 1803-4, to William Davies from his cousin R[ichard] Bevan, barrister-at-law, New Boswell Court, London.
