Y Marchog Crwydrad,

A manuscript containing Y Marchog Crwydrad, being a translation into Welsh of W[illiam] Goodyear's English version of Le Voyage du Chevalier Errant by Jean de Cartigny. Egerton Phillimore has inserted the following note: 'This MS. was written by Jeuan ab Jeuan ab Madoc in the parish of Bettws, near Bridgend, Glamorganshire, in about 1575, and differs materially from the other two known MSS. - in fact it is a distinct translation, and interesting as a specimen of Glamorgan dialect. This is far the most perfect MS. of the Welsh translations of this work. The first folio is gone but is preserved in a slightly later transcript ... the missing fol. 74 ... is said to be in Brit. Mus: MS. 100 Harl: D. XVII. 2414'. On the front of the volume is written 'No. 25 / No. 144 Hauod [although this manuscript is not mentioned by Iolo Morganwg as among the Hafod collection] / No. 8'.

Y Marchog Crwydrad,

A mutilated fragment (Part I, chapter 5 - Part II, chapter 2) of the text of Y Marchog Crwydrad. Additional notes on the fly-leaves by J. H. Davies refer to other manuscripts of the text. The outside upper cover is lettered 'MS Y Marchog Crwydrad'.

Y Marchog Crwydrad,

An edition of Y Marchog Crwydrad, [?ed. by D. Silvan Evans (Tremadog, 1864)], with a few manuscript notes.

'Y marchog crwydrad',

An imperfect early seventeenth century manuscript containing one of the five known sixteenth or seventeenth century copies of the Welsh prose text entitled 'Y Marchog Crwydrad' or 'Treigl y Marchog Crwydrad', the other four being found in Llanstephan MS 178, NLW MS 15533B (previously Llanwrin MS 2), Cwrt Mawr MS 30 (fragment), and NLW MS 15541A (previously in Belmont Abbey, co. Hereford), all in the National Library of Wales. Apart from the exceptions noted in the foliation description the present text is in one hand which, it has been suggested, is the same hand as that of the unidentified scribe of the text to be found in NLW MS. 15533B. The present text is incomplete wanting the following - Section I, the whole of chapter 1, the beginning of chapter 2, the end of chapter 4, and the greater part of chapter 5, Section III, part of chapter 2, part of chapter 3, the end of chapter 7, the whole of chapter 8, the beginning of chapter 9, the greater part of chapter 10, and the whole of chapters 11 and 12, and, as already indicated under description of foliation above, in two instances lacunae in the text have been filled in a different hand. The version of the Welsh text which appears in NLW MS 15533B was published by D. Silvan Evans in Y Brython, cyf. V, 1862-3, tt. 1- 17, 138-53, 257-67, 361-74, and subsequently republished as a separate pamphlet or booklet with the title Y Marchog Crwydrad. Hen Ffuglith Gymreig in 1864.

'Y Marchog Crwydrad',

Transcript, commenced 26 September 1883, of Llanover MS E. 1 (NLW MS 13163B), 'Y Marchog Crwydrad', a Welsh translation of William Goodyear's 'The voyage of the wandering knight' [1581], taken from the thirteenth-century French tale 'Le voyage de Chevalier errant', by Jean de Carthenay; together with notes by Egerton Phillimore.
