John Evans of Aberystwyth, shipbuilder and bankrupt,

Papers relating to John Evans of Aberystwyth, shipbuilder, dealer and chapman, who filed for bankruptcy in July 1857, and Charles MacArthur of Tynybedw near Crosswood, wood ranger, assignee of his estate and effects. The papers include court papers, accounts, letters, lists of debts and receipts. An inventory of goods seized, July 1857, and abstracts of title (1813-1857), posters and conditions of sale of lots to be sold, including the schooner 'Ocean Queen', a share in the Aberystwyth Gas Company, and the lease of the Shipwrights Arms public house, Aberystwyth, Sept. 1857.

James James of Penarth Cottage,

A letter, marked 'Private', from James James of Penarth Cottage to his legal adviser describing the failure of his marriage, and asking that a reply 'in an envelope to the Rev'd William Hughes, Parkneuadd, near Aberayron, for should it get into my wifes hands, she will most likely open it or burn it, or it may be in Birmingham amongst her relatives before I have it.'

William Eardley Richardes of Bryneithin,

Draft account of W. E. Richardes of Bryneithin with F. R. Roberts relating to the purchase of Paal otherwise Pale at Rhydyfelin from William Evans. The account is drafted on the backs of pp. 14-16, 20-23, 37-38, 90, 94-98 and index of a copy of a Cardiganshire electoral register (temp. J. Percy Severn, c.1860).

George Green of Cilcert,

Original bundle of papers relating to the purchase by the Manchester & Milford Railway Co. from George Green of Cilcert, farmer and cattle dealer, of parcels of land numbered 62-64 on the railway company's maps. Most of the papers relate to George Green's title to Wern, p. Llanddewibrefi, purchased from the descendants of Walter Jones of Wernnewydd (d. 1830), including Rev. Richard Jones of Llangynog, co. Mont., and including an abstract of title (1815-1855), June 1865, and letters, May 1865-June 1867.

Thomas Jones of Mount Pleasant, Aberystwyth,

Original bundle of deeds relating to dwelling houses in Sandmarsh Road, now Queens Road, Aberystwyth, and to a cottage called Sandmarsh Cottage in the same street, which were devised by Thomas Jones of Mount Pleasant, merchant, to his three daughters. Original envelope marked 'Deeds concerning Queens Road houses; Miss Jones, Mount Pleasant'.

John Jenkins of Princess Street, Aberystwyth,

Original bundle of papers of John Jenkins of Princess Street, Aberystwyth, cabinet maker, comprising grant of a burial plot in the cemetery in p. Llanbadarn Fawr 1874, together with receipts for payment for the same, 1874-1883, certificate of registry of birth of Edward Jenkins, 1877, and a solicitor's bill, [?1880s]. Original wrapper marked 'John Jenkins in account with Burial Board and birth certificates'.

Edward Evans of Great Darkgate Street, Aberystwyth, draper,

Original bundle of papers, mainly leases and insurance policies, relating to the estate of Edward Evans of 40 Great Darkgate Street, Aberystwyth, draper, comprising premises in Queens Road, Prospect Place, Marine Terrace, Corporation Street and Cambrian Street, and including an agreement to purchase 4/64 shares of a vessel now being built by John Williams of Aberystwyth, master mariner, and to contribute a proportionate share of the cost of building the same, 1877; a share certificate in the Aberystwyth Public Baths Company, 1879; and inland revenue residuary account of the personal estate of Edward Evans's father John Evans, draper, 1886.

Original bundle of papers relating to the estate of Richard Hughes of Smithfield Road, Aberystwyth, chemist, comprising particulars and conditions of sale of a parcel of land and a newly erected corner house thereon in Lewis Terrace and Smithfield Road, Aberystwyth and a warehouse in Smithfield Road, 1878, and deeds relating to the same, 1878-1888, together with a letter, 1917, from Roberts & Evans to Hugh Hughes of Aberystwyth, solicitor, relating to the deeds.

Elizabeth Pritchard and Martha Pritchard,

Deeds and documents relating to a trust of £800 established by the wills of Elizabeth Pritchard (d. 1855) and Martha Pritchard (d. 1861) to purchase coal to be distributed at Christmas to the poor of Aberystwyth, Llanbadarn Fawr and Penparcau, including appointments of new trustees in 1878, 1902 and 1921, and letters from the Charity Commissioners, 1919-1924.
