History

The lodge was established in 1839 making it the oldest Cardiganshire lodge within the Gwalia District. It was registered successively at the White Hart by 1854; at the Eagle Restaurant in 1926; and at Argyle House, 5 Chalybeate Street, from 1932; all in Aberystwyth. The minute book for 1864 also reveals that it met at The Prince Albert Inn, Aberystwyth. Like all the other lodges within the District its membership during the twentieth century saw a steady and continuous decline from 138 members in 1918 to 87 in 1925, 56 in 1949 and only 22 in 1960. Two years later it amalgamated with the Rheidol Lodge.
