Scope and content
Thomas Lewes from Brecon, to Sir Nicholas Williams, BART., to be left at Tom's Coffee House in Russel Street, Covent Garden, London. In answer to 'yours' of the 3rd instant. Mr. Thomas Lewis of Harpton, father to the Member for Radnor, bought the reversion of some estate in the hundred of Builth from one Thomas Lloyd of Rhoseverick in that hundred, some small part whereof is situate in Maesmynis or Llanynis parish in the same hundred and was formerly mortgaged by Lloyd or one of 'his' ancestors to Mr. Francis Lloyd (late Judge Lloyd) or 'his' father Mr. Marmaduke Lloyd, one of which by some agreement, as is supposed, with mortgagor had the possession of the lands delivered 'him' towards payment of the yearly interest of mortgagor money, and the agents of the heirs of Mr. Francis Lloyd have ever since until the decease of Thomas Lloyd, which happened about six years since, received the yearly rent, that on the deceased of Thomas Lloyd Mr. Lewis the Member by some understanding with the tenant is got into possession and receive the rents. The other estate is in the parish of Llangamarch and was formerly mortgaged by one of the Stedmans of Doleygare to one of the gentlemen above. The tenant to this estate has for many years pad part of 'his' year's rent to Mr. Stedman; the rent has for a long time and now is paid to Mr. Price, the present agent, as it is said for interest money. The value of these estates the writer is a stranger to, but one Ambrose Williams, from whom this account was had, who was agent in the time of Mr. Marmaduke Lloyd and continued until the present agent was employed, can give a more particular and satisfactory account of these estates. Mr. Price, the present agent, is well acquainted with Ambrose Williams and has, the writer believes, talked with 'him' in relation to these mortgages some years since, particularly on the decease of Thomas Lloyd. The deeds belonging to these estates probably are amongst the writings in the old trunk sent over to Edwinsford. These estates perhaps are included in the settlement made on the marriage of Mr. Francis Lloyd's daughter, without considering them as mortgaged estates, which 'you' will be pleased to consider. The above is all 'I' can say to these estates.
