History
The Committee for Wales was established as a sub-committee of the School Curriculum Development Committee. Its membership was appointed by the SCDC and it acted in consultation with the Secretary of State for Wales. The functions of the Committee for Wales were broadly to consider and advise on matters affecting the curricula of pupils in schools in Wales; to bring forward proposals for work; to initiate specific programmes of work within Wales and to encourage curriculum development work generally within Wales and to disseminate information about it. Professor J H Beynon was appointed as the first chairman and Hywel I Evans, the vice chairman. The Committee for Wales was abolished in 1988 but aspects of its work were carried on by the newly formed Curriculum Council for Wales.
