The Parliament for Wales Campaign (Ymgyrch Senedd i Gymru) is a cross-party, non-party organisation set up to win support for an elected legislative Parliament for Wales. It was previously known as the Campaign for a Welsh Assembly (Ymgyrch dros Senedd i Gymru) and changed its English name in 1993 on the recommendation of the National Council. Their business, including minutes and publications, is conducted bilingually in English and Welsh.
The Campagin developed from the Cardiff-based campaign for a Welsh Senate, set up in the wake of the 1987 General Election. It was officially launched at Merthyr Tydfil on 26 November 1988, following a number of informal meetings throughout Wales during the previous year.
In March 1994 the Parliament for Wales Campaign organised a two-day Democracy Conference in Llandrindod attended by 250 representatives from all walks of Welsh civic society, including political parties, churches, local authorities, and trade unions. The campaign organised questionnaires and petitions and placed advertisements in newspapers calling for devolution.
Following the establishment of the National Assembly for Wales, the Parliament for Wales Campaign now calls for a fully democratic Assembly with legislative powers similar to the Scottish Parliament and the Northern Ireland Assembly.
