History

An introduction to 'The Rime of the Ancient Mariner' was first published in 1972 as a book in itself, by Clover Hill Editions, London (to coincide with the 1972 exhibition at the British Library) . It was originally written as an introduction for the 1964 Clover Hill edition of Coleridge's poem, in which David Jones's engravings of 1928 are reproduced. Due to its length it could not be accommodated and only the opening section appears there.
