The New Welsh Review is a quarterly literary magazine, established in June 1988 following the demise of The Anglo-Welsh Review. The journal features original fiction and poetry, critical articles, and reviews of books and the arts by both established writers and new talent. It is a platform for Welsh writing in English, though its content and contributors also reflect a wider cosmopoliton outlook.
The New Welsh Review is published with the financial support of the Welsh Books Council and the Arts Council of Wales, with additional sponsorship from Aberystwyth University and the University of Glamorgan. The journal is also supported by the English Language Section of the Welsh Academy and the University of Wales Association for the Study of Welsh Writing in English.
Belinda Humfrey was the Review’s first editor in 1988, and she was succeeded by Michael Parnell, who died within months of becoming editor in 1991. Robin Reeves was appointed editor of the journal in 1991, followed by Victor Golightly (2001-2002), and most recently Francesca Rhydderch (2002-).
