Administrative history
The National Joint Committee was set up to advise the President of the Board of Education on the advisability of establishing a National Council of Education for Wales which would take over the functions of both the University Court and the Central Welsh Board for Education. The proposal was discussed for the final time by the University Court in 1936; the National Council of Education was in fact never established, partly due to the opposition of the Academic Board. Further details are given in J. Gwynn Williams, The University of Wales 1893-1939, p. 369.
