Thank you very much for your letter of the 12th of Rabi al-Avval, delivered to me by Captain Dokaral [Douglas?] on the 28th of Rabi al-Avval, regreting the delay in my arrival in Allahabad and also informing me that you are intending to return to England; perhaps you would consider delaying your departure. As the company officials had appointed you to lead all the expeditions we are wondering who will be appointed to replace you. If it is Colonel Barker who takes over we know that he would come to my help whenever I need him. General Carnic John Bahadur [Carnac] is leaving as well but he would also be able to come to my resecue if I needed him. -- I have already replied to you about some of the issues mentioned in your letter. The delay in reaching Allahabad was because of a physical condition and I was unable to undertake this journey.
