Ysgrifennu, fel cystadleuydd am y Goron yn Eisteddfod Wrecsam, i achwyn am sylwadau W. J. Gruffydd ar y gystadleuaeth. Mewn adroddiad Saesneg fe ddywedir bod W. J. Gruffydd wedi dweud 'the prize poem was not a masterpiece, but that it was far in advance of the others entered. The others might be described as having a stale and faded prettiness, while some poets had their eyes on the Crown and their backs to Poetry'. Cymer fod ei gerdd ef yn mynd i blith y rhai sy'n cynnwys 'stale and faded prettiness'. Mae'n protestio yn erbyn hynny. Ysgrifennodd ei gerdd mewn pythefnos a'i theipio deirgwaith ei hunan. Bu'n gweinidogaethu y tu allan i Gymru ac felly nid oes ganddo ormod o Gymraeg i addurno cerddi. Mae niwl cryf yn yr Eisteddfod ac y mae angen gwynt i'w chwythu ymaith. Mae'n gosod sialens i W. J. Gruffydd, 'Gwili' a Chynan i ysgrifennu cerdd cystal รข'i gerdd ef ar y pwnc 'Yr Hyfryd Lais'.
