Scope and content
Microprint copies of two letters, dated 18 June 1798, in the hand of John Evans (1770-1799), the Welsh explorer. John Evans was at this time in Cape La Cruze and the letters are addressed to Don Zenon Treaudeau, Lieutenant Governor of St. Louis, and Monsieur A. Soulard, St. Louis. The Library was allowed to make these copies from a microfilm in the possession of Dr. W.D. Sherman, Curator, John Evans Mandan Indian Materials, Philadelphia, USA, which he had obtained from the Archivo General De Indias, Seville, Spain, where the letters are lodged (ref. Cuba 213).
