Llanbadarn Fawr (Tir Allt Forgan and Tir Aber Nant)

Title deeds for two parcels of land called Tir Allt Forgan and Tir Aber Nant in the parish of Llambadarn Fawr, comprising a mortgage by Maurice ap John ap Ridderch of Llanychaearn, Cardiganshire, to David ap Gruffith ap Ieuan ap Ll'n, 1556, and subsequent sale to Owen ap David ap Griffith 1564; and a mortgage by the latter to John Pryse of Gogerddan, 1568/9.

Llanbadarn Fawr (Ty-yn-y-pwll)

Deeds by William Cobb Gilbertson late of Dol-y-Clettwr then of King David Lane, London, and his trustee, John Pierce of Lodge Park, for the sale to Margaret Pryse of Woodstock, of Ty-yn-y-pwll in the parish of Llanbadarn Fawr, 1791; and the subsequent sale by Sir Pryse Pryse, his son, Pryse Pryse Pryse, their trustees and the Crown Life Assurance Company, mortgagee, to Thomas Powell of Aberystwyth, 1883; with schedules of the property and previous deeds, 1836-1880.

Llanbadarn Fawr (misc. properties)

Title deeds relating to various properties in the parish of Llanbadarn Fawr, 1875-1897. Properties sold by Sir Pryse Pryse and his trustees include Pempompren, Glynrheidol or Shimney Llwyd, Gwargraig, Bethel Chapel, Bwlchybrynar and Gwarffynnon, 1875. Purchases include rent charges issuing from Ffynon Caradog, Dorglwyd, Penycefn, Troedrhiwgwinau, etc., from the Powell family of Nanteos, 1877, and Ffoesyfydir, Alltddu and Tyntwll, from John Richards of Tynpynfarch, 1897. The file also contains a lease by the Commissioner of Her Majesty’s Woods, Forests and Land Revenues to Sir Pryse Pryse of Gogerddan and John Thomas Morgan of Nantceiro to maintain a fence illegally erected on crown land in the manor of Perfedd between the sheepwalks of Blaenpaithnant and Henhafod, 1882; and a lease by Sir Pryse Pryse of Tynyfron and fields in Llanbadarn Fawr and Faenor Uchaf, 1883. Llanbadarn Fawr (Pendrefach)

Copies of a conveyance by James George Frederick Bonsall of Glanrheidol to Edward Humphreys of Glandwr, of two pieces of land forming part of the farm of Pendrefach, 1883, and the will of Edward Humphreys, 1889, with covering solicitor’s letter, 1903.

Dyffryn Clarach (Wirglodd Wyllt)

Title deeds of meadows in Dyffryn Clarach in the parish of Llanbadarn Fawr, mainly Wirglodd Wyllt, 1506-1564. The first deed is a gift by Philip B’enythe of Cardigan, to John Glayse of Aberystwyth of a moiety of Y Weyrglothe Hallte, by the river Ystwyth and the land of the abbot called Ang' Terr', 1506. The remaining deeds refer to several meadows including two moieties of Wirglodd Wyllt, the first of which was assigned by the mortgagee of Richard ap David ap Rudderch of Llanbadarn Fawr and Richard ap Rees ap David Lloid, his trustee, to John Pryse of Gogerddan in 1564; previous mortgagees had included Edward Roodes, vicar of Llanbadarn Fawr. The second half was assigned by the son of the mortgagee of Philip Williams of Aberystwyth and Elen vch Lewes ap Rudd’gh his wife, to John Pryse of Gogerddan, 1563/4.

Dyffryn Clarach and Llangorwen (misc. properties)

Title deeds for houses and lands mainly in Dyffryn Clarach and Llangorwen in the parish of Llanbadarn Fawr, 1555-1634. Boundaries include the lands of the Queen, Yr Afon Ryd and Trwyn y Gribin. The properties include a meadow called Y Gorse Dee, mortgaged by Richard ap David ap Rudderch of Llanbadarn Fawr and Richard ap Res D'd Lloid his trustee, 1556/7; Erw Aber Killan, Klawdd y Pandy and Y Llayn Dan Vryn y Kastel, comprised in a mortgage and bonds by Watkin ap Richard of Llanbadarn Fawr, 1599, 1608, 1620; Tythen yr Erw Veinioge, Tythen Keven Moelvre and Tythen Pant Gwyn, comprised in family deeds of Morice David ap Ieuan ap Moris of Llanfihangel Castell Gwallter, 1578, and John Moris ap David, 1605, and sold to Sir Richard Pryse in 1614; Ty Mawre Nessa at Pont Llangwrwen in the township of Faenor, purchased by Rees ap Ieuan Walter; and Tythyn Issa, in the manor of Y Dre ar Faenor in Clarach, subject of a bond for conveyance to Sir Richard Pryse after redemption of the mortgage, 1634. The remaining deeds are mortgages and bonds of Phillipp Williams of Aberystwyth, David Lloid ap Watkin of Llanbadarn Fawr, William ap Ieuan ap Thomas of Llanbadarn Fawr, and Richard Phellippes of Aberystwyth, 1555-1593.

Clarach (Tythyn Aber Nant Killan Issa and Rhos Kellan Vach)

Title deeds of Tythyn Aber Nant Killan Issa or Nant Kellan (Nant Cellan) in Llawr Rhandir or Parsel Clarach in the parish of Llanbadarn Fawr, 1660-1699, and Rhos Kellan, 1766-1789. The deeds for Aber Nant Killan comprise a family settlement by David Lloyd Mores of Llanbadarn Fawr and Katherin his wife, 1660; and a deed of sale by Meredith David Lloyd to Edward Pryse of Gogerddan, with related agreements, 1698-1699. The other documents are a defeasance of articles of agreement between Edward Jones of Aberystwyth and David Morgan of Gogerddan on behalf of John Pughe Pryse, for the sale of a moiety of Rhos Kellan Vach, 1766; questions and answers on an exchange of Rhos Cellan lands, 1789; and an undated rental of Clarach parcel

Title deeds of houses and lands in the townships of Cwmrheidol, 1544-1671, and Melindwr (including the mill), 1490-1594, 1861; and leases of the site for Dyffryn chapel, 1859, and of the Gogerddan Arms and a sheepwalk at Ponterwyd, 1864, all within the parish of Llanbadarn Fawr.

Cwmrheidol

Title deeds of houses and lands mainly in the township of Cwmrheidol in the parish of Llanbadarn Fawr, 1544-1671. Boundaries include the river Rheidol and Tir y Castell. Some deeds also include properties in Trefeurig (see endorsement). The earliest deed is a quitclaim by Morice ap Ieuan ap Rees of Llanbadarn Fawr to Morgan ap John ap John ap D'd Lloid, of Tythyn Aber Com Lain Y Dyol, Blaen Com Llain Y Dyol and a cottage called Penning, 1543/4. Subsequent deeds refer to Y Thole Ddy in Kwm Reidioll and four tenements in Trefeurig, acquired by John Pryse of Gogerddan from Thomas Lewes of Llanbadarn Fawr, 1583; Gwndome Gwyn, Helva Yssa, Tuthyn Llan Y Diol, Tythin y Llechweth Hen and a dairy house called Lle Llyest y Nant Gouche, Tuthyn y Penrhyn Moylddy and Tuthyn Tale y Ddinas, purchased by Sir Richard Pryse (elder and younger) between 1610 and 1636; and Tir Pen Rhiw Llain y Diol, Gweddw Llain y Diol and Llain Wen Yn Ystlys y Castell, purchased by Dame Gwen Pryse, 1632. The file also contains a quitclaim to Humfrey Griffith, of Tythen Troed Rywlainidol or Tythen Morris Gittin Goch yn Habed, Nantyrachub in Nant Gredin and Yrachyb ym Mlaen Hirnant, Yr Aghyb Ynghareg y Gath, and land in Gwegil Castell, 1570; a conveyance by John Jones of Nanteos to Sir Richard Pryse, of land in Aberystwyth and Lainadiol, Llaine Vach and Troed Llainadioll in Cwmrheidol, 1664/5; and a release by Sir Richard Pryse of Gogerddan, to Evan Lloyd of Llanbadarn Fawr, of Tythyn Pont Erwyd in the township of Cwmrheidol, with a covenant for suit of mill at Melindwr, 1671

Elerch (Cwmere, Tyddyn Rhyde yr Onnen, etc.)

Title deeds of Cwmere, Tyddyn Rhyde yr Onnen and Llaine Bryn y Cedy in the township of Elerch in the parish of Llanbadarn Fawr, 166[?]-1880. They include deeds by Mores ap Evan ap Mores, his son John and wife Jane, to Edward ap Howell David Lloyd, 166[?], [1672]; the will of Thomas ap Edward, 1683; a conveyance by his nephew, Thomas John of Aberystwyth, to David David Lloyd, 1687; marriage settlements of David Lloyd of Cwmere and Mary Bennett of Trefeglwys, Montgomeryshire, 1731, and of David Lloyd the younger and Anne Jones of Havode, Cwmrheidol, 1769; a pedigree (enclosed in a recovery deed) 1821; a mortgage by Rev. Lewis Jones of Almondbury, Yorkshire, mortgagee of Jenkin Jenkins of Cwmere and Margaret his wife (nee Lloyd), 1853; and an assignment, 1880, by the last mortgagee, Jacob Roberts of Aberystwyth, to a trustee of Sir Pryse Pryse (who had purchased the properties in 1871 and 1874).

Elerch (Camddwr Bach)

Deeds of sale by Evan Watkin of Moelcerny and his father’s surviving trustee, Rev. Lewis Evans of Llanfihangel Genau’r-Glyn, to William Cobb Gilbertson, trustee to Sir Pryse Pryse, of Camddwr Bach in the township of Elerch in the parish of Llanbadarn Fawr, 1825.

Llanbadarn Fawr (Faenor) title deeds

Title deeds of houses and lands in the township of Faenor in the parish of Llanbadarn Fawr, 1552-1885. Part of the township, Faenor Issa, is also referred to as lying in Dyffryn Clarach. The properties include Y Gardde Bychen and Tir Maes y Gove, acquired by Sir Richard Pryse between 1600 and 1604; a moiety of Tythyn Estyn y Ffynon Ddu, purchased by Sir Richard Pryse, 1643/4; Tyddyn Estyn Ffynnon Sais Duy purchased by Thomas Pryse, 1741; Tythyn Bron y Gof, Tythyn Dol y Velin, etc., purchased by Thomas Pryse in 1734; and Wern Philip purchased by the trustees of Sir Pryse Pryse, 1885. There are also miscellaneous deeds recording acqusitions by mortgage and purchase by John Pryse, Thomas Pryse of Glanfred, Sir Richard Pryse (elder and younger), and Thomas Pryse of Ynysgreigiog, 1564-1652. Other prominent names include Richard Phillipps of Aberystwyth and his son Henry, Sir Thomas Johnes of Abermarlais, the Vaughan family of Rhosgillan, Llanbadarn Fawr, Rees of Rhiwarthen, and Lloyd of Dan y Castell, Llanychaearn.

Faenor (Tyddyn Estyn Ffynnon Sais Duy)

Title deeds for Tythyn Estyn y Ffynon Ddu or Tyddyn Estyn Ffynnon Sais Duy in the township of Faenor in the parish of Llanbadarn Fawr, 1644-1741. They include a deed of sale by Hugh ap Evan Gwyn to Sir Richard Pryse of Gogerddan, of a moiety of Tythyn Estyn y Ffynon Ddu, 1643/4; the post-nuptial settlement of Rees David ap Evan Thomas and Jane vch Edward ap Howell Thomas, comprising Tyddyn Estyn Ffynnon Sais Duy and another messuage and garden, 1651; mortgages by Edward Rees of Rhywarthen, 1699, 1702; probate of the will of the mortgagee, Evan Morgan of Llanbadarn Fawr, 1702; marriage settlements of James Edward, son of Edward Rees, and Mary Richard, widow of Watkin John, 1712, and of David Rice, son of Hugh Rice (a mortgagee), and Elizabeth Francis, eldest daughter of James Francis the elder of Caron, 1733; a deed of sale by Simon James of Llanbadarn Fawr, son of James Edward, and his mortgagees to Griffith Hugh of Llanychaearn, 1740 ; and a subsequent sale to Thomas Pryse of Gogerddan, 1741.
