Early personalia

The file comprises miscellaneous papers, 1918-1945, relating to Goronwy Roberts's early life and to members of his family. They include copies of his curriculum vitae and references written in support of his candidatures for posts, papers concerning his early career, and his candidature in Caernarfonshire in the Labour interest in the general election of 1945.

Flintshire Politics

The file comprises correspondence and papers relating to local political life, mainly to Eirene White's unsuccessful candidature at Flintshire in the general election of July 1945. Many of the papers concern her selection and experiences as the Labour candidate for the division. There are also copies of election leaflets and addresses and press cuttings.

Letters to Eirene White

The file comprises early letters during her schooldays at St Paul's Girls' School and her years as an undergraduate at Somerville College, Oxford. A few relate to the affairs of the Oxford Women's Student Association. Some are written by relatives. Later letters concern her early career, particularly her journalistic work and applications for posts. Many of the correspondents refer to Eirene Jones's candidature for Flintshire in the general election of 1945 and her subsequent election campaigns in Flintshire East. There is much general political correspondence, some concerning constituency matters. Many of the letters refer to her wide-ranging public and committee work and numerous societies.
