The Stradling family,

Material accumulated by John Montgomery Traherne when preparing The Stradling Correspondence ... for publication. It includes letters, 1845-1855, to Traherne from Joseph Hunter, Theophilus Jones, etc., pedigrees, copies of Stradling wills, 'A Survey of the estates of Sir Thos. Stradling, bart., 1732', etc.

Among the additions are notes and memoranda by John Montgomery Traherne, facsimiles of autographs, sketches of monuments and memorials, coats of arms, bookplates, autograph letters (including one from Agnes Strickland), etc., and a document, 1602, bearing the autographs of Thomas Mansell and W. Pryce.

An[n]o 1643 ...', extracts from works on religion, a copy of 'The man[n]er of the winning of Glamorgan out of the Welsh mens hands by Sr Robert fitz Hamon and his followers ...', pedigrees mainly of Glamorgan families, 'An alphabet of some coates of armes in Wales and the borders of the same', details of some Glamorgan fee-farm rents, etc.

Rice Merrick's 'Glamorgan Antiquities',

A transcript by John Montgomery Traherne of Rice Merrick's manuscript (published in 1825 and again in 1887) usually known as 'A Book of Glamorganshire Antiquities by Rice Merrick Esq. 1578'. The transcript is preceded by the following note: 'The following extracts illustrating the History of Glamorganshire were made from a MS. in the possession of Canon Williams Wilkins Esq. of Pwllpant transcribed in 1702 by E. Lhuyd at the Ashmole Museum Oxford from a MS. bearing date 1657. This MS. appears to be extracted from of [sic] a folio MS. in the Library of Queens Coll. Oxford entitled A Book of Glamorganshire Antiquities ... The Provost and Fellows kindly permitted me to peruse this vol. a duplicate copy of which was burnt at Havod [Cardiganshire]'. There are also numerous additions, including lists of knights of the shire and sheriffs, pedigrees, copies of deeds and other charters, notes on the manor of Llanbleddian, etc.
