Memorandum that John Harry Lewis of the parish of Llanelly in the county of Carmarthen, yeoman, and John Vaughan of the same parish, esquire, have made an agreement by which the said John Harry Lewis grants to the said John Vaughan the right to work all the coal that may be found upon the land of the said John Harry Lewis lying to the north of the highway leading from Llanelly to Lwchwr and coasting eastwards towards the house of the said John Harry Lewis, for the term of twenty-one years, at the rent of one shilling and sixpence for each waie of coal landed and sold upon the said land. Lease of one close of land, on which the said David Robert is now building a mansion-house, and commonly known as gardd evan lying in the town and parish of Llanelly, the lease to begin from the date of this agreement and to extend for three lives. The annual rent is three shillings and fourpence to be rendered at two specified terms, a couple of pullets of New Year's Day, one day's reaping of corn at harvest-time, ten pence in lieu of a heriot as often as it falls within the term of the lease, and sixteen pence for every stranger that shall happen to die upon the said premises. If the rent is unpaid for fifteen days after the proper term, the right of re-entry is reserved to the lessors. The leassees agree to erect a mansion-house upon the said land, and to hand the same over to the lessors in a good state of repair at the expiration of the lease. English. Record of Dispute between Sir Humphrey Mackworth of Neath in the county of Glamorgan, knight, and John Rice of Swanzey in the same county, gent, concerning the contract made between Sir Humphrey, as owner, and John Rice, as manager, for the working of certain coal-mines in the seigneury of Gower. Two agreements, the first dated 15 September 1711, and the second 7 March 1712/13, are recited. The said John Rice then puts a series of questions concerning his rights, and answers to them are given by R. V. The mines mentioned by name are Cwm bach, Loughor, Dustnant, Berthlloyd. English.
