Part of Wyndham Powell Records,
Original bundle of papers relating to an action in the Kings Bench (ref. 1949 M 3) between Elizabeth Euronwy Metcalfe (an infant by her father and next friend Albert Metcalfe) and the said Albert Metcalfe (plaintiffs) and Edward Higginson (defendant), and the related claims for injuries of Catherine Mary Morgan and Maggie Metcalfe, both of Dolgwartheg, including a file of Cardiganshire Constabulary photographs (ref. M/506), showing the "scene of accident near Dolgwartheg, Aberayron which occurred at approximately 11-15am on Tuesday 5th Nov., 1946 when a military staff car driven by Driver Edward Higginson, T/1413847 [given elsewhere as T/14138487] knocked down two women and a girl aged 6 years named Elizabeth Metcalfe severing her right leg below the knee". Also briefs, bills of costs, correspondence, opinions, statements, police and medical reports, a copy of the Crown Proceedings Act 1947, a copy of Elizabeth Euronwy Metcalfe's birth certificate (b. 12 June 1942), 1949. Elizabeth Euronwy Metcalfe's case at least appears to have been settled out of court, the Treasury Solicitor, on behalf of the defendant, agreeing to pay the plaintiff's claim, to bear the costs and expences of medical care and artificial limbs for the life of the infant plaintiff, to pay £4000 into the County Court at Aberystwyth to be invested and applied for the benefit of the infant plaintiff, and to pay the plaintiff's costs.
