A mutilated scrapbook of Ellen Evans containing two poems, one of which is signed 'L.E.L., G.A.B., 1838'; English translations of a Welsh couplet by Evan Evans ('Ieuan Fardd'), made at Llanarmon-in-Yale Vicarage, 1846, by E[van] Evans, vicar of Llanarmon-in-Yale, T. Brown, curate of Llanferres, and Hugh E. Heaton, assistant curate of Mold; and a pencil drawing of the 'H[olyhead?] C[ompany's?] P[rivate?] V[essel?] Magna' preparing to take the pilot out of an outward bound barque.

Scrap-book of 'Myrddin Fardd',

A scrap-book of John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') lettered 'Cadw mi gei'. The manuscript items include a list in the hand of 'Myrddin Fardd' of family mottoes of North Wales interest; English translations by Henry W[illia]m Hewlett, 34 Great James Street, Bedford Row [London], c.1827-8, and Welsh translations by 'Myrddin Fardd', c. 1876-8, of public records relating to Pwllheli and Criccieth; glossaries by 'Myrddin Fardd' of Welsh words (e.g. obscure words, flower names); an explanatory list by 'Myrddin Fardd' of Caernarvonshire place-names; entries by 'Myrddin Fardd' of sales by him of manuscripts to D. G. Goodwin, Salop, 1893, and to J. H. Davies, Cwrt Mawr, 1899-1900; entries by 'Myrddin Fardd' of births, deaths and burials of members of his family; and a holograph 'englyn' ('Beddargraff Owen Jones (Manoethwy)') by E[llis] O[wen], Cefnymeusydd, 1866. The press cuttings cover a wide range of Welsh literary and antiquarian interests and include portraits of Welsh celebrities, prospectuses and reviews of publications by 'Myrddin Fardd', prospectuses of Arwest Farddol Glan Geirionydd, 1880, 1888-9, fragments of Y Beibl Cyssegr-Lan (1588), being the first complete Welsh translation of the Bible (with notes by 'Myrddin Fardd' on the disposal of two copies of this edition of the Bible once in his possession), etc. The volume is numbered '1' on the upper cover and on the upper end-paper.

A scrap-book compiled, with a holograph introduction and table of authors, by David Evans, Llanrwst containing press cuttings, largely from Llais y Wlad, 1875-?81, of 'cywyddau' and 'awdlau', with annotations. The poetry consists mainly of the flyting 'cywyddau' of Edmwnd Prys and William Cynwal ('Yr Ymrysonfeydd rhwng Edmwnd Prys, Archddiacon Meirionydd, a William Cynwal, Prydydd ac Arwyddfardd') and 'cywyddau' ('Cyfansoddiadau') by Dafydd Llwyd ab Llywelyn ab Gruffydd Fychan. A scrap-book inferentially compiled by John Lloyd Jones ('Clwydwenfro'; 1835-1919) containing press cuttings and a few manuscript items. Some of the cuttings are dated within the 1850s-1870s and among the more interesting titles are 'Hynodion Cwm Rhondda .... Testyn Cystadleuol Eisteddfod y Porth, Nadolig, 1861'; 'Collegiate and University Education in Wales'; 'Llythyr oddiwrth y Parch. Morris Phillips, Cenhadwr i India'; 'Teyrnged i Goffadwriaeth Ioan Pedr'; 'Beirniadaeth ar Gyfansoddiadau Barddonol Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Aberdar, Awst 1861'; 'Llangollen Great National Eisteddfod' [1858]; 'Y Ffrwydriad yn Abercarn'; 'Sketches of Cardiff Preachers'; etc. The manuscript material comprises a tale entitled 'The Bride of Santa Croce', 19 November 1856, described in an annotation by J. Ll. James as 'the composition of the late John Griffith Davies (son of the Rev. J. Davies ['Siôn Gymro'], Glandwr, Pembrokeshire) who wrote it and sent it to John Lloyd James, then a student at Carmarthen College, that he might fill up the outline', and verses entitled 'Y Messiah', etc. addressed to John Ll. James, Berllandawel, Llanglwydwen and annotated in the latter's hand 'J. G. Davies, Yetwen, pan yn Narberth', etc. The outer upper cover is inscribed, in the hand of J. H. Davies, 'Articles and poetry from Cyfaill y Werin and other papers'.

Morris Roberts, Remsen, Richard Jones y Wern a John Elias. - Hanes dyddorol am danynt, yn agos i'r diwedd.' The volume was originally used by 'Myrddin Fardd' to record material on local history, and on some of the pages on which he has not mounted his cuttings there are transcripts of memorial and other inscriptions from Penmorfa [Parish] Church and notes on John Williams, Llecheiddior.
