Copies of letters etc,

A collection of historical documents, letters, etc., from 1558 to 1624, apparently copied soon after the latter date. They include copies of letters written by Sir Walter Raleigh to the king, to his wife, and to some lords of the Council, papers relating to the proposed Spanish marriage alliance of Prince Charles and copied of letters of Queen Elizabeth. There are copies of several of the documents in Sloane MS 1786. 88 Numbered folios. Bound in leather boards. Bookplate of James Buckley, Bryn-y-Caerau.

Quarter Sessions order book,

Orders made at the Quarter Sessions for Breconshire from Michaelmas 1670 to Hilary 1685, together with records of licences granted to agisters and inn-keepers at quarter and special sessions from 23 to 26 Charles II. Bound in leather boards. This volume has been returned to the Clerk of the Peace for Brecknockshire with the consent of the Executor of the depositor. (signed) W. Ll. Davies, 1933.

Petty Sessions minutes etc,

A copy of the charter of Humphrey, Earl of Stafford, to the burgesses of Brecon, 26 April 1443, copied from a transcript of a copy in the Red Book of Caws Castle (see Peniarth MS 280) and notes relating to the lordship of Brecon extracted from the same source. A book of orders made at the general meetings of the deputy lieutenants for Breconshire, 6 Aug. 1804-9 Sept. 1807. Minute books of Petty Sessions for the hundred of Crickhowell, 13 May 1791-12 Oct. 1815, with records of licensing sessions. A composite volume; half-calf.

Copies of pedigrees out of books and manuscripts, including 'The Genealogy of the High and Mighty Monarch James ... King of Great Brittayne &c. ...'. Gathered by George Owen Harry, parson of Whitchurch in Kemeis, at the request of M. Robert Holland, 1604. Imprinted at London, by Simon Stafford for Thomas Salisbury. A collection of pedigrees made out from a manuscript copy in the possession of Mr Lloyd Llewellyn of Carmarthen which was written by Mr Morgan Lewis in 1696. Mr D. Jones Lewis of Llanwrda, who made this collection, availed himself of other documents which enabled him to continue the record of some families at the time of writing (1830). Mr Lewis' copy was transcribed by Mr Joseph Morris of Shrewsbury, from those transcript a copy was made by Rev. W. J. Rees, Cascob (1832), and the present copy was transcribed by Joseph Joseph from Rees' copy. A copy of the Cedwyn MS written in 1663, transcribed y Rev. John Jenkins, Kerry in 1828 (see NLW MS 1654B), and re-transcribed by Rev. W. J. Rees, Cascob (1832). A copy of a collection of Pedigrees of families in Radnorshire, transcribed by Joseph Morris of Shrewsbury from Lewis Dwnn. A copy of pedigrees from the book of Gabriel Powell of Swansea. Pedigrees, impropriations and ecclesiastical benefices.

Bundle of papers including a notebook containing 'Ancient pedigree of many of the first families in south Wales' and lists of 'Impropriations with cure of souls, and chappells annexed, with vicarages now become stipendarys' and of 'Ecclesiasticall benefices in the Bishops gift, the incumbents, and the common reputed value of them' in the diocese of St Davids.

St Davids chapter books,

Notebook containing copies of 'some extracts' memorandums, &c out of the Chapter Books of St Davids &c. taken in 1741 by Richd Davies, Archdeacon of St Davids and Canon Residentiary. With a fragment (pp. 61-77) out of an eighteenth century MS, containing lists of prebendaries and canons of St Davids.
