Derby, gent., and Charles Roe of Macclesfield, co. Chester, gent. Lease for 21 years by 1, with the consent of 2, to 3, of all lead ore and copper ore and all other minerals in or under Penryn Du, p. Llanengan, co. Caern, reserving to 2 such ore and minerals as are on the hillocks and heaps of ore earth and minerals now lying on the surface; covenants include that 3 will keep account books of all ore sold, 3 to employ ten men and to begin the work within three years and that if 3 and their workmen are prevented by water or want of air from working the mines for three months during the said term of 21 years, then 3 shall not have to observe the covenants. Consideration: £143-10-0 paid by 3 to 2, being money expended by 2 on timber, tools, materials and workmanship in opening the shaft and clearing the level of the mines. Annual rent: 1/10th of all ore raised during the first two years and 1/8th during the remaining years of the said term. Recites that 1 leased the mines to 2 for a rental of 1/7th of all ore raised, that the mines have already been worked 30 yds deeper and further than the old level; that 3 have agreed to work the mine for a further 10 yds and that in order to make an effectual trial of the mine 1 have agreed to lease the mines at a reduced rent. Endorsed: Agreement that 3 shall have the same liberty as 2 had to divert a spring running through Penryn Du as occasion shall require for puddling, working and cleansing the ore.
