Demise by Francis Boldero and Robert Parker to Nicholas Hare, knight, and Thomas Jolye of a pightle (small meadow or enclosure) next to the rectory in the parish of Burgh, Suffolk, used for the sustenance of the anniversary of the church which was the gift of Edward VI by letters patent, dated 14 March 1549.

Cynnull Mawr (Llanvred)

Copy court roll of the manor of Genau'r-glyn, recording a lease for three lives of Llanvred (Glanfread) in Cynnull Mawr to Henry ap Rees Dee [1550]; and a mortgage to the latter by David Lloyd ap Mere'dd ap Rees ap David Lloyd of Llanbadarn Fawr and Jane Mories his wife, of land at Llanvred, 1556.

Lease, 1558, by Hugh ap Richard of Kevyng Llanvawre, Caernarfonshire, to Richard Owyn of Trefoenyth (?Trawsfynydd), of the Ffryth, Kariarthen, Kaemadok, Tyddyn yr Evell, half of the fishing on the Dyfi (Dovey), etc., in the township of Pennal, previously demised to Hugh ap Richard by the Crown in 1556

Llanfihangel Genau’r-glyn (Tirymynech or Dwyarchen)

A lease by Richard, abbot of Strata F[lorida] to William ap John Voya, of Dywarchen [Court Grange] in the commote of Genau'r-glyn, dated at the chapter house, 1539; and a bond by Thomas ap D'd ap Gitto, Ieuan ap Ho'll Thomas, Thomas D'd ap Gwallter and others, all of Llanfihangel Castell Gwallter, and Ieuan ap Morgan of Llanbadarn Fawr, to Elizabeth I, that as tenants of the Queen’s land called Tyre y Mynyche or Dowarchen, they would jointly prosecute anyone that would injure or do wrong to them, and would jointly answer and fortify one another in maintaining their rights, 1558/9.

Bond by John ap Hughe ap Harrie of New Radnor to Richard ap Hughe ap Harrie of Llanbadarn Fawr, Cardiganshire, for the redelivery of deeds concerning ?Helflie in Michaelchurch[-on-Arrow].

Dyffryn Clarach (Wirglodd Wyllt)

Title deeds of meadows in Dyffryn Clarach in the parish of Llanbadarn Fawr, mainly Wirglodd Wyllt, 1506-1564. The first deed is a gift by Philip B’enythe of Cardigan, to John Glayse of Aberystwyth of a moiety of Y Weyrglothe Hallte, by the river Ystwyth and the land of the abbot called Ang' Terr', 1506. The remaining deeds refer to several meadows including two moieties of Wirglodd Wyllt, the first of which was assigned by the mortgagee of Richard ap David ap Rudderch of Llanbadarn Fawr and Richard ap Rees ap David Lloid, his trustee, to John Pryse of Gogerddan in 1564; previous mortgagees had included Edward Roodes, vicar of Llanbadarn Fawr. The second half was assigned by the son of the mortgagee of Philip Williams of Aberystwyth and Elen vch Lewes ap Rudd’gh his wife, to John Pryse of Gogerddan, 1563/4.

Inquisition into rents of the Earl of Leicester in the lordship of Denbigh

Results of an inquisition headed by John Salesbury of Rug, undertaken in response to a petition from the tenants of Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester in the lordship of Denbigh for a remission of revived rents, 1566. It incorporates a rental and a copy of the Earl of Leicester’s official response. It also lists the commission and jury, and the names of tenants ‘which bought Stanley’s lands’.

Dolgledr, Llwyngwril, Ystradgwyn

Miscellaneous title deeds of doubtful provenance but two of them were filed under the Caethle estate by the previous cataloguer, with a query attached. They comprise a gift by Gruff' ap Res ap Ho'l ap Kad', to Ho'l ap D'd ap Ho'l ap Kad', of a tenement called Pantygaer near Mamhedde in the township of Llwyngwril [Llangelynnin], 1505; a conveyance through tir prid by John ap Res ap Ll'n ap Eden', to Hugh ap Res, clerk, of Pant yr Odyn in Llwyngwril, 1522; the pre-nuptial settlement of Howell ap John ap David and Lowry vch William ap Ieuan Vichan, comprising properties in Dolgledr [Dolgellau], 1558; and a bond to John David Lloid for peaceful possession of Tythyn Bell Vynyth and a cottage at Pantygasseg in Ystradgwyn, Tal-y-llyn, 1567.

Llanbadarn Fawr (misc. properties)

Title deeds of houses, burgages and land in the village and parish of Llanbadarn Fawr, 1332-1567. Boundary clauses mention the highway, the church and cemetery wall, and Rhyd y Castell. The earliest deeds include gifts by Matilda the wife of Walter Pencoyd, to her son Robert, 1332; John de Clanevowe lieutenant justicar of South Wales to Thomas de Ewyas, 1335; and William the mercer to his son Robert Lloyd, 1384. Properties include Tyddyn Jankyn ap Gitto ap Gwallter, Tythyn Lletty David, Tythin John ap Meredith Vawr, Com Ervin (Cwmerfyn), Tir D'd Goch ap Ll'n ap David Vayn, Tythin John ap Meredith Vawr, Tythyn Bryn Hire; and a ‘principal messuage’, Tythyn yr Hyd Hire, Rhyd Lydan, Tythyn yr Ogo, Gwern Ffilippe and Tithen y Werne purchased by John Pryse of Gogerddan, 1563-1567. Other deeds record transactions of Richard ap Rees ap David Lloyd, 1541-1542, 1553; Richard ap David ap Rudderch and Edward Rodes, vicar of Llanbadarn Fawr, 1547; Maurice Wogan of Pembrokeshire and Margaret vch David his wife, 1552; and Robert Shea of Carmarthen and Ross, Ireland, organ maker, 1564. Further items comprise the will and inventory of Ieuan ap Moris of Llanbadarn Fawr, 1544; a family settlement of Griffith ap William ap Griffith, 1563/4; and a lease by Sir Henry Johnes of Abermarles of the farm, being part of the rectory of Llanbadarn Fawr [1564/5].

Manor of Genau’r-glyn, and the commote of Pennardd

Original red, velvet-lined box containing an inspeximus and confirmation, 1334, to Robert, brother and heir of Geoffrey, son of Geoffrey Clement, of three letters patent, 1290-1318, granting lands in of the commote of Pennarthe (Pennardd), Coedmor and Genau’r-glyn, Cardiganshire, where the boundaries extend from a stream called Gogerthan to Abertandovey (other boundaries described); a further inspeximus and confirmation, 1427/8, to John son of Griffith, son of Robert Clement, of an inspeximus and confirmation, dated 1400, confirming the previous one; and a covenant by John Wogan of Wiston and Cecill his wife, to levy a fine to John Pryse of Gogerddan of the manor of Genau’r-glyn in the parishes of Llanfihangel Genau'r-glyn, Llanbadarn Fawr and Llangynfelyn, in which Elizabeth wife of Jenkyn Gwyn held a life estate, with a bond for the same, 1568.

Llanbadarn Fawr (Tir Allt Forgan and Tir Aber Nant)

Title deeds for two parcels of land called Tir Allt Forgan and Tir Aber Nant in the parish of Llambadarn Fawr, comprising a mortgage by Maurice ap John ap Ridderch of Llanychaearn, Cardiganshire, to David ap Gruffith ap Ieuan ap Ll'n, 1556, and subsequent sale to Owen ap David ap Griffith 1564; and a mortgage by the latter to John Pryse of Gogerddan, 1568/9.

Nancwnlle bond

Bond by Rise Gwyn of Nancwnlle to John Pryse of Gogerddan for further assurance of properties called Tythyn y Gottel, Pentrey’r Velin, Perth y Neyoedd, etc. in the parish of Nancwnlle, to trustees of Rise Gwyn and his heirs by Marie vch John, his wife, 1569.

Henllys (Ynys Vergi)

Title deeds of the tenement and lands at Ynys Vergi [township of Henllys] in the parish of Lanfihangel Genau’r-glyn, comprising a demise by John Gl'm, abbot of Cwmhir, to Ieuan ap Jeinkin, dated at the chapter house of Cwmhir, 1536; a quitclaim by John ap Moris ap Owen to Phillipp Williams, 1562; and a gift by [his son] Richard Phellepps of Aberystwyth to John Pryse of Gogerddan, 1570.

Ceulan a Maes-mawr (Tythyn Erow’r Carney)

Original tied bundle and one other deed relating to a tenement called Tythyn Erow’r Carney in the township of Ceulan a Maes-mawr, quitclaimed by Elliw vch David ap Thomas widow of Ieuan ap Dynyved, lately deceased to their son, Lewis ap Ieuan ap Dynyved, 1556, mortgaged and subsequently sold by the latter to John Pryse of Gogerddan, 1569-1570. The file also includes a bond by a mortgagor to Rees ap Jenkyn ap Ieuan ap David for peaceful possession of arable land near Tal-y-bont, 1566.

Final concord between John Pryse [of Gogerddan] and John Wogan [of Wiston]
and Cicilia his wife, of the manor of Genau'r-glyn, and properties in Llanbadarn Fawr, Llanfihangel Genau’r-glyn and Llangynfelyn, 1568, with exemplifications, of this fine and another (of 1569), dated 1573; and a grant by John Wogan to John Pryse of an annuity issuing out of the lordship of Genau'r-glyn and of the reversion of the same, 1570.
