I have asked Ram Nanun Rai who had accompanied the vakil to investigate and remedy the situation. In spite of my nervous disorder I would have never dared not to answer your letter. As far the payment for wages is concerned, my financial situation is not hidden from you. Whatever amount I was able to raise as a loan as payment for the month of Jeth has already been sent to you. I have raised two Lac rupees as a loan from Mirzapore to pay for the months of Jeth and Bisakh. This sum has also been sent to you. In addition I am trying to raise another one and a half Lac rupees from Abid Kothi in Calcutta. This will be submitted to you as soon it is available

At the time of leaving this place and before entering Murshidabad I had hoped that I would be able to come to Calcutta and give you personally a detailed report of events here but it is unfortunate that I cannot fulfil this wish. However, I was able to send one Lac rupees to you yesterday. I am not neglecting the rest of the payments which I assure you will follow in instalments. I would like to assure you that I regard my duty to pay my taxes above everything else. The Maharajah will be leaving for Burdwan in a day or two and will be able to send the rest of the amount from there

My astrologers have told me that 11th of this month will be an auspicious day for me to travel. Therefore I will leave here on that date to come and see you I have rewarded the captain with three thousand rupees and have paid another two thousand rupees to the soldiers. I need one hundred of your best men to come here and provide a guard on my residence. I therefore request you to send one hundred trustworthy and able soldiers. These will be in addition to six soldiers I have retained from the company of soldiers, which came here with the Captain

I am grateful to you for the kindness you have shown to us. Enclosure 2: Copy of a letter sent in reply to the Nawab's letter. Thank you for your letter informing that you will be reaching Azimabad on 15th of this month and will meet Rajah Sahib there. I was also glad to know that you are well. You sent me a copy of the parvanah you received. The Nawab does not say much in this letter but I am convinced that your interpretation of the matter is correct

According to this in Sondip or Swandip six English soldiers were ambushed and killed and one Sergeant and fifteen soldiers were injured and taken prisoners. They were also later on killed. Mr Simmons is a pious and righteous man and whatever he says has really happened. It is necessary to keep the respect of the Company intact and it is necessary to punish the perpetrators of this mischief and if necessary to send army from Jahangirnagar there. As you have asked me to investigate the details of this incident as given in the above translation, and to appoint some force, I have, therefore, appointed a force under Shah Quli to teach the culprit Zamindar a lesson. As the rainy season has started it is difficult to send any enforcement there by land and I suggest that the force from Jahangirnagar should be sent by boats and the culprits killed or brought back as prisoners. It is also necessary that you also send a contingent to participate in this expedition
