Thirteen exercise books, those numbered I-XII containing miscellaneous poetic and prose compositions (many in draft form), by, and in the hand of, Isaac Jones, Diserth, co. Flint [father of Thomas Gwynn Jones, professor of Welsh literature, University College of Wales, Aberystwyth]. The items include 'pryddestau' entitled 'Abel' (a draft and a more finished version, composed for competition at an eisteddfod at Blaenau Ffestiniog, 1891), 'Cartref', 'Y Nefoedd', and 'Naaman y Syriad' (draft) (composed for competition at eisteddfodau or literary festivals at Abergele, 1885, 1889, and 1890, respectively), and 'Y Croeshoeliad'; a draft of a romance in serial form called 'Teulu'r Groesffordd' (seven chapters completed, chapter 8 incomplete); a short story called 'Hywel Tudur yr Hendre'; a draft of the beginning of a novel to be called 'Teulu'r Hafod'; draft or final versions of short dissertations or essays on such topics as 'Geirwiredd' (for competition at an eisteddfod at Llanrwst, 1891), 'Cadwraeth y Sabbath yn ei berthynas a llwyddiant tymhorol' (incomplete), 'Y Ddeddf air Efengyl', 'Y Tair Gardd' (1922), 'Peryglon y Swydd i Ysbryd y Blaenor' (headed by a pencilled note, in another hand, reading 'Papyr a ddarllenwyd yn Nghymdeithasfa Caerlleon, gan Isaac Jones, Dyserth'), and 'Gwyrthiau'; an incomplete copy of a letter referring to tithe legislation, addressed to the editor of Y Faner; and other incomplete fragments. The note-book numbered XIII contains a copy of the poem by T. Gwynn Jones entitled 'Dyddiau y Parch. Richard Owen' [see Dyddiau y Parch. Richard Owen, gyda Chynyrchion Buddugol Ereill, gan Gwynvre ap Iwan a Gwilym Meredydd (Wyddgrug, 1891)]. This is probably the actual holograph copy of the poem, which, under the pseudonym 'Deigryn Hiraeth', T. Gwynn Jones submitted for competition at a literary festival held at Abergele, Christmas 1888. Included with the note-books are a holograph note from Mrs. S[arah] E[lin] Jones, sister of T. Gwynn Jones, undated, a holograph letter from Owen Jones, husband of the said Mrs. S. E. Jones, Diserth, [19]53, and a letter from the said Owen and S. E. Jones, Dyserth, [19]53, [all three to D. Gwenallt Jones, University College of Wales, Aberystwyth], and all relating to the note-books, which were being forwarded to the recipient. Included also are typescript notes compiled by, and bearing the initials of, A[rthur] ap G[wynn] [son of T. Gwynn Jones], listing, and commenting on, the contents of each individual note-book.

A composite volume in the hand of Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg') the contents consisting almost entirely of Welsh free- and strict-metre verse, the latter being mainly in the form of 'englynion'. Most of the verse items, whether single stanzas, multi-stanza poems, or sequences of stanzas, bear the name of the said [Edward Williams] 'Iolo Morganwg', and all are probably his work. Many are in an incomplete form. Pp. 1-16 contain a copy of a proposed preface or foreword to a collection of poems which [Edward Williams] 'Iolo Morganwg' apparently intended to publish in 1809 (see IM, tt. xliv-xlv), and this is followed on pp. 17-88 by verse items including items with the titles or superscriptions 'Gwasgaredd Iolo Morganwg', 'Anneddfoldeb', 'Dyn ymguddgar', 'Cwyn Clwyfus', 'Dyriau Gwasgar', 'Pennillion diarhebol Iolo Morganwg', 'Pennillion serch gwasgar', 'Darnau Defnyddion Doethineb Teuluaidd', 'Cynghor', 'Tribanau', 'Pennillion 1805', 'Doethineb Teuluaidd sef Pennillion Diarhebawl', 'Salm 105', 'Canu Gwashaela Sir Gaer', 'Emyn Dydd Barn', 'Emyn Angladd', 'Salm 104', and 'Salm'. The upper half of p. 89 bears the inscription 'Doethineb Teuluaidd Neu Lawrol Doethineb sef Egwyddorion Dyled at Dduw a Dyn ar Fesurau cân rhwyddion ac mewn Iaith esmwyth hawdd ei dealt Er addysg i'r Ieuainc a'r Annysgedig. Iolo Morganwg ai cant' which is followed on the lower half of the page by three stanzas of verse and on pp. 91-2 by nine stanzas of an incomplete poem. On p. 95, which was possibly a 'title-page' for the section now paginated 99-138, is a variant version of the aforementioned inscription reading 'Doethineb Teuluaidd ar Fesurau cerdd rhwyddion ac mewn Iaith esmwyth Er hawsder dealt i'r annysgedig a'r Ieuanc. Iolo Morganwg ai cant', two stanzas of Welsh verse by 'Iolo Morganwg', a Latin quotation from the works of Seneca, and the date 'Alban Eilir 1807'. This is followed on pp. 99-131 by poems with the superscriptions 'Doethineb Teuluaidd. Trioedd Doethineb', 'Gwersi Doethineb sef Gwasgaredd Doethineb. Y Cwlm Cyntaf', and 'Gwasgaredd Doethineb. Yr ail gwlm', and thirty-nine stanzas without a superscription. Pp. 139-40 contain miscellaneous stanzas headed 'Gwasgaredd Iolo Morganwg' and pp. 143-4 a sequence of stanzas headed 'Cynghorion gwasgaredig o'r ysgrythurau'. P. 147 is inscribed 'Doethineb Teuluaidd Sef Caniadau Dwyfawl a Moesawl ar Fesurau esmwythion Er addysg Dwyfol a moesol I blant a Chymreigyddion Ieuainc Gan Iolo Morganwg, B.B.D.', and p. 148 contains a list of the names of, or descriptions of, eighteen poems or sequences of verse or groups of poems to be found on pp. 149-202 including 'Cân y diodydd ar hen ddiarhebion Cymreig', 'Cân y Ffermwr', 'Englynion i Ddosparth Cerdd dafawd Gwynedd' (called 'Englynion sen . . .' on p. 148), 'Ar ddiwydrwydd', stanzas without a title or superscription but listed as 'Pennillion y Trallodion' on p. 148, 'Englynion y Bedydd', 'Englynion o flaen Trioedd Pawl', 'Gwasgargerdd Iolo Morganwg', 'Salm', miscellaneous stanzas including 'englynion' and 'tribannau', 'Gwasgaredd Iolo Morganwg', 'Tribanau' (listed as 'Tribanau Gwasgargerdd' on p. 148), miscellaneous 'englynion' including two relating to 'awdlau' submitted at an 'eisteddfod' held at Aberhonddi in 1822, 'I Owain Myfyr' (a bitter attack on Owen Jones ('Owain Myfyr')), 'Englynion i'r Greal a gyhoeddwyd gan Ddeudneudwyr Llundain', 'Pennillion Iolo Morganwg' (one hundred stanzas containing moral precepts), a sequence of twenty-one stanzas of a similar nature (these two series of one hundred and twenty-one stanzas are probably the ones referred to as 'Doethineb Teuluaidd (Ex Catonis Disticha de Moribus)' in the list on p. 148, see IM, t. 290), and 'Cynghor'. P. 237 contains what appears to be a copy of a proposed title-page to a collection of poems containing moral precepts entitled 'Llawrol Doethineb Neu Doethineb Teuluaidd' composed by [Edward Williams] 'Iolo Morganwg' possibly with a view to publication in 1816.

Elizabeth] by Thomas ap Richard of Bwlch y Beydu, Denbighshire, gent., in a dispute between David ap Rees ap gruffith lloyd of Llanrwst, yeo[man], William ap Rees ap gruff lloyd of Scrogennan, and Low[ ] ... widow, mother of the said William, relating to messuages and lands in Llanddoged and Gwytherin, late of Rees ap gruff lloyd deceased; a lease for life, temp. Elizabeth, from Richard lloid of Sweney, Salop, gent., to Richard Burley of the same, yeo[man], of mays yr hen westyn in Sweney.

Williams, Trenton, New Jersey, to his uncle Richard Jones [Capel Curig], [18]56 (the writer's reminiscences of Capel Curig, the writer's church membership); the scribe's wages accounts and tailoring measurements; memoranda relating to eisteddfodau; an essay on 'Manteision Gwybodaeth'; an extensive collection of Welsh proverbs; etc. The titles of the poems include 'Englyn i Glogwyn yr Ogo. ger Llanrwst', 'Llinellau Ar farwolaeth Miss Margaret Jones, merch Mr R. A composite volume containing transcripts of historical and literary material in the hand of Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg'). Pp. 1 -74 contain one of the two known reputed transcripts by Edward Williams of the supposedly variant version of the medieval Welsh Chronicle of the Princes ('Brut y Tywysogion') which is generally known as 'Brut Aberpergwm' or 'The Gwentian Brut'. The superscription on p. 1 reads 'Llyma Vrut y Tywysogion val y bu Ryfeloedd a gweithredoedd enseiliaid a Dialeddau, a Rhyfeddodau gwedi eu tynnu or hen gofion cadwedig au blyneddu'n Drefnedig gan Garadawc Llancarfan', and, according to a note at the end of the text (p. 74), the present copy was transcribed by Iorwerth ab Iorwerth Gwilym, i.e. Edward Williams, in 1790 from one of the manuscripts of the Reverend Thomas Richards, curate of Llangrallo [co. Glamorgan], who, in turn, had copied the work in 1764 from one of the manuscripts in the possession of George Williams, esq., of Aberpergwm [co. Glamorgan]. This is substantially the text that was published in The Myvyrian Archaiology of Wales . . ., vol. II, 1801, pp. 468-582, and also in Aneurin Owen (ed.): Brut y Tywysogion; the Gwentian Chronicle of Caradoc of Llancarvan . . . (London, 1863), this second publication being accompanied by an English translation. P. 89 is inscribed 'English Translation of Caradoc of Lancarvan's Annals of the Princes of Wales. By Edward Williams. 1807. Rough Copy'. The section now paginated 101-88 contains an English translation of the text found in pp. 1-74. A copy of Butler's Improved Cellar Book which belonged in 1862 to William Walters. It contains manuscript notes on the history of England. Pasted in at the end is a press-cutting of 'Ychydig hanes, ar fesur Can, am y braw a'r trallod fu ar drigolion Twynyrodyn, o achos dau ddyn dyeithr ddaethant i lettya i arwydd y "Goron", yn mhentref Merthyr Tydfil, yn Sir Forganwg. Rhai gwragedd synwyrol a ddychymygent mai dau o'r Press gang oeddynt; eraill a honnent mai dau o'r Ffrench oeddynt. Hyn a barodd i'r trigolion ffoi; rhai wrth y naill hosan, eraill wrth y naill esgid, &c. &c.'
