Pedigree book, [mid 17 cent.], each page consisting of a printed arrangement of fifteen empty roundels and eight shields to accommodate four generations, together with a larger shield for an achievement; partially used to enter the Welsh ancestry of King James I, based on George Owen Harry, The Genealogy of ... James ... King of great Brittayne ... (London, 1604) (see p. 38). Apparently in the hand of Sylvanus Morgan (1620-1693) whose pedigree appears on p. 1, although a note by J. E. Oldfield (inside front cover) suggests the scribe to have been Peter Vaughan, sometime of Jesus College, Oxford.

Transcripts by Robert Lloyd, surveyor of Crown lands, of documents relating to crown rents in North Wales, including notes of a rental of Llewenny park; a rental of Burton; an extent of Wrexham; a draft letter to the inhabitants of Dyffryn Clwyd concerning the sale of the lordship to Sir Francis Crane; extracts from records in the Tower of London concerning Welsh escheats; a copy of a letter from Ro[bert] Chambers to William Salesbury at Bachymbyd, 23 July 1635; an annotated copy of a survey of Bromfield and Yale, 23 Henry VII; and a note of Flintshire crown rents.

A draft tract entitled 'Proofes drawne from authorities and other reasons why Cadelh prince of Southwales was the eldest sonne of Roderic the greate (kinge of Wales) and that he and his issue after him had a superioritie over the rest of Wales and his two bretheren and the descendantes from them' by, and in the autograph of, Robert Vaughan of Hengwrt. The substance of this tract was subsequently incorporated in Vaughan's British Antiquities Revived (Oxford, 1662). The volume contains both the arguments and answers set forth by Vaughan and therefore differs considerably from Peniarth MS 277 which contains only the arguments.
Pasted inside the front cover is a short description of the volume in the form of a cutting from Messrs. Sotheby, Wilkinson and Hodge’s Sale Catalogue of the Mostyn Library (1919), p. 22.

Rough drafts of pedigrees on sheets of paper, including that of Bishop Lloyd, of Worcester, the Lloyds of Bodewryd, the Pulestons, the Trevors and other families; memoranda in Welsh relating to the Mostyn family; copies of grants of arms to Sir Thomas Holland, of Barrow, Anglesey, and Lewis Owen, of Crewthyn.

Three fragments mainly containing material in the hand of Morgan Llwyd: a) Sheets out of a notebook containing notes of sermons, one of which is said to have been delivered by 'Mr. Lloyd' [?Morgan Llwyd]. b) A copy (2 pp.) of the verses of lamentation and resolution by the Welsh saints, 1643, comprising ten out of the twenty verses printed by T. E. Ellis in Gweithiau Morgan Llwyd (Bangor, 1899), vol. I, pp. 3-6, in the following order - 1, 2, 5, 6, 3, 9, 8, 7, 14, 18; a version, in the hand of Morgan Llwyd, of the first nine stanzas of a 'Thanksgiving song for Wrexham delivered from pest' (Gweithiau, vol. I, pp. 12-13); notes by Morgan Llwyd, including drafts of sermons, and a list of names (Ens. Roberts, Howell Thom., Ben. Rich., Walt. Thimble., Hugh Prich.) headed by a cancelled sentence - 'who should have the booke of my verse'; twenty-two stanzas beginning 'The lord is kind and merciful ...' in the hand of Morgan Llwyd, being apparently a draft of a poem or of a series of poems by him; thirteen stanzas based on Canticles, in the hand of Morgan Llwyd, ten roughly corresponding to those printed in E. Lewis Evans: Morgan Llwyd (Lerpwl, 1930), pp. 176-8, stanzas 11 and 12 corresponding respectively to 4 and 5 in Ellis: Gweithiau, vol. I, p. 10, and stanza 5 being possibly the basis of stanza 3 in Gweithiau; a transcript of the Canticle verses in another hand; a draft, in the hand of Morgan Llwyd, of the poem 'Hanes rhyw Gymro' (Gweithiau, vol. I, pp. 57-60); and a copy of verse xxviii in Gweithiau, p. 61. c) Draft translations of psalms by Morgan Llwyd. The translations are incomplete, and many stanzas have been cancelled. There are verses translated from Psalms 19, 37, 44-46, 121-122, and 126.

(Bristol, 1753).

An entry book of warrants directed to Sir Richard Wynn for the payment of wages, pensions, and gifts; transcripts of a warrant for the repayment of £8,000 lent by Sir Richard Wynn to King Charles I, and of privy seals for various payments; and entries of payments by the receivers of the Queen's revenues in England and Wales, 1640-1643.
