Personal papers

The sub-fonds comprises William Condry's personal papers, being defined as those which provide an insight into his character, education, special interests, travels, friends and acquaintances. The papers include nature diaries, 1935-1998, field notebooks, 1952-1994, printed books, journals, press cuttings and notes about other naturalists, 1935-1996, and Henry Thoreau, 1943-1999, correspondence, [c.1938]-2016, travel records, 1947-1994, school records, 1929-1936, biographical sources, and a number of letters and tributes received by his wife after his death, 1998-2020.

Professional Papers

The sub-fonds consists of papers connected with Condry's professional work in conservation and natural history, 1932-1998, his membership of committees and societies, 1947-2005, and lectures and talks, 1948-1993. The papers relate mainly to Wales, but include references to other parts of the British Isles.

Literary papers

The group consists of notebooks, loose notes, drafts, indexes, correspondence and printed material, 1825, 1893, 1930-1998, used for Condry's editorial work and for the preparation of his books, articles and reviews, together with a sustantial number of the finished, printed articles cut from newspapers and magazines

Neville C. Masterman donation,

Papers accumulated by Neville C. Masterman, former senior lecturer in history at the University College of Swansea, comprising original and photocopied letters from W. Llewelyn Williams, 1909-[2005]; copies of articles, diaries and reports belonging to W. Llewelyn Williams, 1919-[2005]; and Neville C. Masterman's own research papers, notebooks and miscellaneous notes relating to his intended biography of W. Llewelyn Williams, 1967-[2005].

Papers of W. Llewelyn Williams donated by T. Michael Evans, comprising diaries, 1895-1915; correspondence, 1902-1924; professional papers, 1899; printed material, 1861-1922 (accumulated 1912-1922); personal papers, 1882-1921; and papers accumulated after his death, 1922-2005.

2014 Donation: Diaries,

Journals of Winifred Coombe Tennant, 1897-1908 (1 vol.) and 1909-55, with her observations on her war work, public life and politics. Peter Lord (editor) used these for Between two worlds: the diary of Winifred Coombe Tennant, 1909-1924 (Aberystwyth, 2011).

Art patronage,

Correspondence with Welsh artists, art patrons and administrators of art institutions, together with annotated catalogues, ephemera and press cuttings, almost all relating to Winifred Coombe Tennant's activities as a patron of Welsh art and art in Wales. Throughout this group of papers are notes added by Alexander Coombe-Tennant.

Gorsedd y Beirdd and the National Eisteddfod,

Papers, 1917-1957, of Winifred Coombe Tennant, mainly relating to 'Gorsedd y Beirdd' and to the National Eisteddfod of Wales. They include correspondence, 1917-1954, concerning the Gorsedd and the National Eisteddfod, her efforts to assist British prisoners of war, 1940-1941, and general interest; minutes, memoranda and reports of various committees associated with Gorsedd y Beirdd, 1922-1954; articles by Winifred Coombe Tennant and other miscellaneous papers, 1918-1947; press cuttings, photographs, postcards, badges and other ephemera, 1917-1954; printed material, including Gorsedd proclamation programmes, 1918-1954, programmes of Gorsedd meetings, 1925-1951, lists of officers and members of the Gorsedd, 1923-1949, 1924-1959, 1947, annual reports of the Eisteddfod Council, 1937-1950, Eisteddfod programmes, 1917-1952, articles and other items relating to Gorsedd y Beirdd and eisteddfodau, 1918-1957.
