A volume containing hymn-tunes and folk-tunes together with an index to the tunes, written in a mid-nineteenth century hand (ff. 73-209), bound together with a copy of William Owen, Prysgol, Y Perl Cerddorol... (Caernarfon, 1852) (ff. 7-72). A note in pencil on f. 1, probably in the hand of Philip Thomas, suggesting 'Shenkin Dounie, Harpist, Neath' to have been the scribe is probably an error for John Dounie [Downey], harpist, the Mera, Neath (see E. E. Williams, 'The queen of the Mera', Neath Antiquarian Society Transactions (1979), 6-7). Also included is a printed advertisement for John Ambrose Lloyd, Casgliad o Donau... (1843) (f. 210).

'Canto y Gynulleidfa'

'Canto y Gynulleidfa, sef Anthemau a Thonau cyfaddas i'w canu yn yr addoliad cyhoeddus, gan David Bynner ('Dewi Cadfan'), Llangadfan, Chwefror 8fed 1859'. The anthems are 'Praise the Lord, O my soul', 'The Congregational Anthem', and 'Moliant Seion'. Several of the hymn-tunes have titles of Montgomeryshire association, e.g. Beulah, St Cadfan, Cannoffice and Myfod.

Caniadau y Cyssegr

The file comprises a copy of Caniadau y Cyssegr, neu, Gasgliad o Donau Hen a Diweddar...wedi eu cynghaneddu i bedwar o leisiau, gan John Roberts, Henllan (1839). The copy has been annotated and English translations of the hymns supplied by a later hand.

The tune book of Evan Jones, Penucha'r pentra, Trefriw, 1846, containing a copy of Grisiau Cerdd Arwest published in 1823 by John [Ryland] Harris ['Ieuan Ddu'], and manuscript hymn-tunes and anthems by David Harri[e]s, Rowland [Huw] Pritchard and others. There are notes by William J. Roberts ('Gwilym Cowlyd') on Evan Jones on the cover, and on the authorship of the tune 'Caersalem', on p. 223.
