In a note on the aforementioned 'title-page' (p. 199) Edward Williams claims to have transcribed this collection in 1799 from a manuscript in the possession of Siams Thomas of Maerdy Newydd, co. Glamorgan. Preceding and following the actual text of the collection are transcripts of a prefatory letter dated 1685 (pp. 201-06) and of the concluding note already referred to (p. 390) both of which are attributed to the Glamorgan scribe and copyist Thomas ab Iefan of Tre Bryn as compiler of the manuscript from which Edward Williams was allegedly copying (see TLLM, t. 172; IM, tt. 291-4). Pp. 391-477 contain a transcript of a collection, in alphabetical order, of over three thousand Welsh proverbs attributed to Cattwg Ddoeth ('Llyma Ddiarhebion Cattwg Ddoeth . . . sef yw hwnn Ail Lyfr y Gwyddfardd Cyvarwydd'). This collection, according to the aforementioned note at the end of the preceding section (p. 390) attributed to Thomas ab Iefan, had been compiled by the said Thomas from various sources and formed a continuation of the previous section. Edward Williams's claim with regard to the Siams Thomas volume is probably intended to apply to the contents of pp. 391-477 as well. The contents of pp. 199-390 have been published in The Myvyrian Archaiology of Wales . . ., vol. III (London, 1807), pp. 1-99.

A composite volume (pp. 1-540 with two pages not numbered) containing miscellaneous notes, lists, transcripts, extracts, etc., in the hand of Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg'). The greater part of the volume is written in a number of artificial or contrived copying hands, the scribe in some instances appearing to simulate a gothic script. The initial capitals of some of the poems have elaborate decorative detail sometimes incorporating the outlines of human figures or faces, the latter mostly grotesques. The volume has been attributed to a Glamorgan or Gwentian copyist of the first half of the seventeenth century (see TLLM, t. 44). If this dating is accepted stanzas such as those by Rhys Prichard probably have to be regarded as later insertions. There are marginal annotations in the hand of Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg').

An imperfect, composite manuscript consisting of transcripts, in a number of hands of the late sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, of miscellaneous prose and verse items including Welsh poems in strict metre by Edward Dafydd, Dauudd Edward, Davydd William, 'viccar Penllin', Lewis Mfln, Thomas ap Rys 'o blas jolyn', Phillipp Pwell, John Tudur, Dauidd ap Gwilym, Robin Ddv, Gruffydd ap Iefan, John Philipps, Iolo Goch, Thomas Derllysc, Gruffydd Gryg, Siôn Cent, Richard Kynnwal, Huw Machno, Robert Dyfi, and Kadwalader Kesel, two versions of the code of rules for regulating the craft and conduct of the Welsh bardic order generally attributed to Gruffudd ap Cynan, a copy of 'The order of the funerall of John Conway of Botruthan in the Countie of Flint, Esquier, who was intered in Rithlan the 23th of December 1606', a prophesy entitled 'The prophesie of Gre[ ]' (Latin), and a short sequence of Welsh triads. Some of the leaves bear contemporary foliation indicating that they formed sections of other manuscripts. An inscription in the hand of Edward Williams (Iolo Morganwg) on the previous upper cover lists the contents of the volume, and, from this list, it appears that a section containing an account of Gruffudd ap Cynan's sojourn in Ireland in 1098 ('Hanes Gruffudd ap Cynan yn y Werddon yn y flwyddyn 1098') has been lost since the time the inscription was written. There are a few marginal annotations by Iolo Morganwg.

An imperfect volume, the contents consisting of transcripts, in a hand possibly of the first half of the seventeenth century, of Welsh poems being mainly strict-metre poems in the form of 'cywyddau'. These are numbered and, if the manuscript when complete contained the whole sequence, the folios at the beginning containing poems 1-18 and most of poem 19 are now wanting. Many mid-volume and possibly some end folios are also missing. A volume containing transcripts of Welsh verse in strict metre (consisting mainly of 'cywyddau') transcribed, October [18]89 - February [18]90, by I[saac] F[oulkes] [newspaper proprietor and publisher]. Many of the poems are annotated to indicate that they were copied out of a volume in the possession of 'W.J.' of Llangollen, and the whole work appears to be an incomplete transcript of NLW MS 670D, which itself consists of a collection of Welsh poems transcribed by William Jones ('Bleddyn'), antiquary, local historian, etc., of Llangollen. A second note on the same page indicates that, similarly, fourteen 'cywyddau' by Tudur Aled had not been transcribed in the present volume, but had been copied into another book, with the intention of publishing these and other poems by the same bard, together with poems by Guto'r Glyn and Sion Tudur. In fact, fourteen 'cywyddau' and four other poems by Tudur Aled, and all of the poems by Guto'r Glyn and Sion Tudur, which appear in NLW MS 670D, have been omitted from the present volume, the presence of poems by the two latter bards in NLW MS 670D being usually indicated by the transcriber by quoting the title, or title and first line, of such works. A note on p. 153 states that eighty ' cywyddau' by Dafydd ap Gwilym [which appeared in William Jones's book, i.e ., NLW MS 670D, pp. 149-263], had been used to correct the published edition of that poet's work ('Yma daw LXXX Cywydd o waith Dafydd ab Gwilym, y rhai a ddefnyddiwyd i gywiro ei waith argraffedig'). These eighty poems, and also five retaliatory poems composed by Gruffydd Grug, in a poetic contention with Dafydd ap Gwilym, and found interspersed among the eighty 'cywyddau', have been omitted from the present volume. A further note on p. 264 states that the last three 'cywyddau' [in NLW MS 670D] had not been copied, as the transcriber believed the text to be so corrupt, that they did not merit transcription. A fly-leaf is marked 'Bk i', and this possibly connects the volume with NLW MS 19313, which, marked on a fly-leaf 'Bk ii', consists of a similar volume of Welsh verse transcribed, March - April [18]90, by I[saac] F[oulkes], again, by inference, from a book in the possession of W[illiam] J[ones].

A volume of 'englynion' entitled 'llyfr wiliam Siôn o fryn saeth', and partly in the hand of David Jones ('Dewi Fardd'). Many of the 'englynion' are unattributed, and the few poets represented in the volume are William Cynwal, Lewis Glyn Cothi, Ellis ap Llew[elyn], Rhys ap Niclas, Sion Philip, Dr. Sion Siengcin, Lewis Menai, Owen Jones ('o dref machynlleth'), Sion Tudur, Thomas Eufan, Ed'd ap Raff, Wm. Sion Wyn, Da'dd Siengcin, Iolo Goch, Dafydd Jones ('o Drefriw, tan yr yw', 'Dewi Fardd', 'Dewi Sion'), Moris Powel, Hyw Morris ('ar ei glafwely'), William Philip, Owen Griffydd, Mr. Mredydd Wyn ('o lanyfudd'), and Rowlant Preis. An imperfect manuscript containing fifty 'cywyddau' and five 'awdlau' written during the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. The majority of the poems are drafts by, and in the respective hands of, the herald bards Rhys Cain and his son Siôn Cain of Oswestry, the former being represented by twenty-seven poems of which some are dated between 1582 and 1612 and the latter by twenty poems of which some are dated between 1609 and 1634. Other poets represented in the volume are William Llŷn, James Dwnn, 1616 (holograph), Edward ap Raff, Richard Cynwal, Lewys ap Edward, and Siôn Phylip. About three fourths of the poems are hitherto unrecorded. The volume is made up of individual poems written on separate papers which were previously stitched, though probably not for the purpose of covering and binding in book form, and as in the case of other manuscripts deriving from the Cains, e.g., Peniarth MS. 117, each paper bears evidence of having at one time been folded and filed in a bundle, generally with an endorsement, until eventually it became worn and tattered at the creases. The title of one 'cywydd' by Rhys Cain has been added in the hand of Robert Vaughan of Hengwrt.

The greater part of the manuscript was written in the seventeenth century; but there are additions and marginal notes to the nineteenth century. There is an index ('Tabl y llyfr') to ff. 1--76, in a seventeenth century hand. Between ff. 4 and 6 are inserted two leaves (pp. 129-30, 135-6) of David Jones (Trefriw) (ed.): Cydymaith Diddan (Caer Lleon [1766]).

A negative photostat facsimile of Welsh MS. 2 in the John Rylands Library, Manchester, being an incomplete early eighteenth century collection of poetry, largely in the form of 'cywyddau', by Sion Philip, Rhisiart Philip, Edmund Price [sic], William Cynwal, Evan Bry[dy]dd hir, Lewis Môn, Sion Cent, Tudyr Aled, David ap Gwillim [sic], David Nanmor [sic] and others. On p. 76 is a text of 'Brenin dlysau ynys Brydai[n]'. Later eighteenth century additions include a certificate of a declaration of an oath by Edd. Vaughan of Lanymowddy, Merioneth, 2 November, 1750, that a red heifer sold at Dinnas Mowddy and the herd from which it is taken are free from the infection now raging among horned cattle in the Kingdom.

An incomplete miscellany, in the form of three unbound volumes, of free- and strict-metre poetry (including illustrative extracts), compiled by David Thomas ('Dafydd Ddu Eryri') under the title of 'Golwg a'r Parnassus, a Helicon, Sef, Casgliad neulltuol, neu Bigion Dewisol Allan o Waith Prif feirdd neu Brydyddion yr oesoedd, sef y Rhannau hyny o'u Gwaith na ymddangosodd yn argraphedig Hyd yn hyn ond mewn hen Sgrifeniadau, yn Englynion A chywyddau. yn Ddwy Rann; un yn Ddigrifol ar llall yn ddifrifol. O Gascliad, Dewi, ab Thomas, Waunfawr. A Sgrifenwyd yn y flwyddyn 1781'. The preface ('Rhagymadrodd at y Darllenydd') indicates both the period and partly the source of the volume: 'Y Darnau canlynol o Brydyddiaeth a Sgrifennwyd Gennyf yn fy Ieuenctyd, Pan ddechreuais Gyntaf Gael blas, ar farddoniaeth Reolaidd Ac yn ol fy nhŷb i, y Pryd hwnnw, maent yn Brif orchestwaith, Pigion, neu oreuon, Gwaith yr hen Feirdd ... A transcript of a collection of poetical meditations, prayers, psalms, and 'cywyddau', composed by Humphrey David ab Evan, sexton of Llanbryn-Mair, about 1637 to 1644; with a few 'cywyddau' by Siôn Phylip, William Phylip, and Doctor Siôn Kent, and 'englynion' by William Cynwal and Hugh Machno. The statement in David Williams: Cofiant Cynddelw, p. 684, that the greater part of the volume is in the author's own hand is incorrect.

A manuscript entitled 'Immanuel neu Ddirgelwch Cnawdoliaeth mab Duw' in the hand of the Reverend Samuel Williams. The text is a Welsh translation of Archbishop James Ussher's Immanuel: or, The mystery of the incarnation of the Son of God (1638). Samuel Williams ends his text with a citation from the work of the poet Sion Phylip.

A volume containing Welsh poetry, mostly in strict metre (pp. 1-433), together with some prose items, including recipes for making inks and baits for catching trout (pp. xvii-xviii), a short Welsh vocabulary (pp. xix-xxii), descriptions of the coats of arms of Welsh families (pp. 444-454) and the names of the Fifteen Tribes of Gwynedd (pp. 454-456), written in a late-seventeenth century hand.
Many of the sixteenth- and seventeenth-century poems are addressed to members of the families of Owen of Clenennau and Brogyntyn and Wynn of Glyn and Ystumcegid: the manuscript was probably compiled for Elizabeth Wynn of Glyn and Ystumcegid or for her daughter Margaret Wynn shortly after the latter's marriage in 1683 to Sir Robert Owen of Clenennau and Brogyntyn (see pp. 23-25). An index to the poems is supplied by the scribe on pp. 434-443. Poetry in more than one hand has been added between c. 1691 and c. 1713 on pp. vii, 457-476, 484-485, 489-510, including elegies to Sir Robert Owen by Huw Morys (pp. 468-471) and to his sister-in-law Mrs Catherine Pennant by David Davies (p. 473), and a poem in free metre, dated 1713, probably by Dafydd Williams, Rhuthun (p. vii).
