Welsh campaign

The file consists of miscellaneous papers concerning the Alliance campaign in Wales during 1984. They include numerous press cuttings, press releases, resolutions passed and details of constituency allocations between the two parties in the Alliance.

Press cuttings

The series consists of press cuttings, 1912-1955, many relating to Thomas Jones or consisting of press articles and reviews written by Thomas Jones. Some refer to national and political events. There are also a number of obituaries and press tributes. Some of the later cuttings refer to the political career of Eirene White. There is one folder of press cuttings of reviews of Thomas Jones, Lloyd George (London, 1951).

'A Country Diary'

The file comprises newspaper cuttings of 'A Country Diary' articles from The Guardian, 1957-1991, pasted onto index cards. The articles each have a descriptive title, which would seem to indicate that they were intended for the book A Welsh Country Diary, which was published in 1993.

Newspaper articles

The file consists of articles from American newspapers, covering all aspects of Thoreau's life and activities of the Thoreau Society, some of the more notable topics being the opening of a Thoreau Lyceum, Condry's address to the Society in July 1981, a reprint of a newspaper article which he wrote about Walden and Concord, August 1981, his meeting with Lillian Lund Files, the bluebird expert, the controversial contribution of Don Henley to the Walden Woods Project, the preservation of Thoreau's birthplace, and the death of Walter Harding, founder of the Society.

Welsh delegation to Brittany

A collection of papers, 1945-[1950], accumulated by Dyfnallt in relation to the campaign on behalf of Breton nationalists, including papers, March-[?June] 1947, concerning the visit of a delegation from the National Eisteddfod Council, Dyfnallt among them, to Brittany and Paris in April 1947 (ff. 82-121), and including a copy of the first draft of the delegation's report (ff. 107-121).
Also included are manuscript and typescript drafts of various articles on the situation in Brittany (ff. 1, 4-5, 17, 23-30, 32-33, 35-44, 52-54), some in the hand of Paul Quentel (ff. 1, 4-5, 23-30); copies of 'Breton National News Service' newsletters for January and February 1947 (ff. 18-22); a copy of a draft statute for Brittany by the Parti National Breton, dated 10 February 1946 (ff. 8-14); typescript articles on Protestantism in Brittany (ff. 68-72) and the Irish harp (ff. 73-81); and newspaper cuttings, [June 1945]-[May 1947], mostly from various French language newspapers and Y Faner (ff. 122-142), including several articles by Dyfnallt (ff. 124-128, 130, 132, 135).

Berta Ruck manuscripts

Manuscripts of Berta Ruck, [c. 1890]-[1974x1978], including notebooks, 1906-1946; manuscripts and typescripts of literary and autobiographical works, 1955-[1974x1978]; letters, [c. 1890]-1971; poetry, [1920s]-[1930s]; and sketches, [1900x1920].
The notebooks typically contain notes and ideas for fiction, drawings and sketches, pasted in letters and ephemera, and journal entries. These detail her home life and travels and give news of her sons Arthur and Bill Oliver, husband Oliver Onions and other family and friends.

'Spotlight on Wales in Birkenhead'

The Guardian articles

The series includes scrapbooks, 1957-1984, loose newspaper cuttings, 1959-1998, typescript and manuscript drafts of the `Country Diary' articles published in The Guardian, 1957-1991, other, miscellaneous press cuttings, correspondence, notes and printed leaflets, 1988-1998. Condry's own titles for the files have been denoted by innverted commas.

The Museum of Literature,

A scrapbook, begun in 1850 by the Rev. John Williams, entitled 'The Museum of Literature', containing press cuttings, [19 cent, second ½], relating mostly to current affairs, politics, notable figures, temperance and Sunday closing, and health and welfare. The majority of the cuttings appear to have been taken from The Illustrated London News.
Cuttings have been pasted in by Williams on pp. 1-215. Further items have been inserted loose in the remainder of the volume, while some 270 cuttings, mainly of more local interest, have been placed in archival envelopes.

Edward Thomas letters to Jesse Berridge

Seventy-six letters, 1901-1917, from the poet Edward Thomas to his friend, the Rev. Jesse Berridge, containing personal and family news and references to the progress of his work (ff. 1-102; see The Letters of Edward Thomas to Jesse Berridge, ed. by Anthony Berridge (London, 1983); for letter no. 63 in the series see NLW MS 10617B).
Also included are transcripts of two letters from the poet to Mrs Edna Berridge, 1912 (ff. 103-104); one letter, [1940s], to Jesse Berridge from Helen Thomas, the poet's widow (f. 123), and two letters, 1957-1961, and a card, [?1950s], from Eleanor Farjeon (ff. 125, 127-128 verso), together with related papers, notably Berridge's draft of his short memoir of Edward Thomas, 1947 (ff. 106-111; see Letters, pp. 84-90), a typescript address, 1985, by R. George Thomas (ff. 131-134) and press cuttings, 1907-1978 (ff. 135-144), including articles by Helen Thomas, 1962-1963 (ff. 139-142). The collection also contains sketches by Edward Thomas, 1902 (f. 24 recto-verso), and references to W. H. Davies, 1905 (f. 52 recto-verso), Gordon Bottomley, 1907 (ff. 56, 58), Robert Frost, 1957 (f. 127), and to the First World War, 1915-1917 (ff. 92-102), together with a copy of a letter, 1947, to Rowland L. Watson, secretary of the Edward Thomas Memorial Committee (f. 105).
