Wynnstay home rents

Property in p's Ruabon (t's Dinhinlle, Cristionydd), Marchwiail, Erbistock (Eyton Park), Holt and Is-y-coed, co. Denb. Collectors: Mr Stowing (1693-1694), Thomas Wattall (1694), John Jones (1695-1706), Robert Simon (1715-1723), Thomas Jones (1732-1770) and Randle Jones (1772). From R5/8 (1700) onwards p. Ruabon (t. Morton Wallicorum) is added. From R5/11 (1702) onwards p. Wrexham is added. It had been incorporated previously in R9/6a-e (1697-1701) and R9/7 (1700). From R5/1 (1709) onwards p. Is-y-Coed is omitted. It is incorporated from R10/9 (1712) onwards in the Stanwardine Collection. From R11/6 (1718) onwards p. Holt is omitted. Trefarclawdd and Overley Hall Colliery payments

Contained in these payments are details relating to amounts of money paid to colliers, labourers, etc., at Trefarclawdd (in p. Oswestry, Shropshire) and Overley Hall collieries. Collectors: E. Llanfair Caereinion tithes

Containing details of tithes in p. Llanfair Caereinion, co. Mont., including t's Rhosaflo, Brynelen, Cil-yr-ych, Rhiwhiriarth, Llanloddian, Bryn-glas, Dol-ged, Llanfair, Gwenynog and Pen-tyrch. The dates of the volumes refer to the year for which the tithes are due, e.g. the 1815 tithes are detailed in R71/7, but were not necessarily collected in 1815. Collectors: Samuel Hughes, 1817-1833, David Jones, 1834-1856, Joseph Owen Jones, 1856-1860, and Nathan Burlinson, 1861.

Farm and cottage rents

The collection comprises property in p. Oswestry, Shropshire; in p's Wrexham, Gresford, Holt, Llangollen, Llandysilio-yn-Iâl, Llanarmon-yn-Iâl, Llandegla, Llangedwyn, Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog, Llansilin, Erbistock, Ruabon, Marchwiail, Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd, Llanfwrog, Llanbedr Dyffryn Clwyd, Llanynys, Llanhychan, and Ruthin, co. Denb.; in p. Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, cos Denb. and Mont.; in p's Bangor Is-coed and Overton, co. Flint; and in p's Llansanffraid-ym-Mechain, Pennant, Llanfyllin, Hirnant, Llanwddyn, Llanfihangel-yng-Ngwynfa, Llangadfan, Llanfair Caereinion, Llanerfyl, Garthbeibio, Cemais, Llanwrin, Machynlleth, Penegoes, Darowen, Llanbrynmair, Carno, Llanwnnog, Trefeglwys, Llanidloes and Llangurig, co. Mont. These properties were formerly to be found in the following estates or collections: Oswestry or Llanforda estate, Llansilin collection, Llwydiarth estate, Arwystli collection, Manor of Cyfeiliog collection, Llangedwyn collection, Wynnstay collection and the Vale of Clwyd/Ruthin estate collection. Farm and cottage rents are also contained in a separate series of Farm and cottage receiving rentals, 1864-1925. Until 1885 (R140/1a), the rentals below are arranged according to whether the estates were held in fee simple, tail male or tail general, whereas the properties in the separate series of Farm and cottage receiving rentals are arranged according to the more familiar pattern of estates (Llangedwyn and Llanforda rents, Wynnstay and Ruthin rents, Llwydiarth rents, Cyfeiliog/Llanbryn-mair rents, Glan-llyn rents). Collectors: Thomas Adey Cox, 1863, William Jones, 1863-1872, Owen Hughes 1872-1880. From 1865 (R120/1a) onwards, property in p. Llanbadarn, co. Card., is included. From 1868 (R123/1a) onwards the Glan-llyn estate collection is included (except for the chief rents), consisting of property in p's Llanfor, Llanycil, Llanuwchllyn, Llangower and Trawsfynydd, co. Mer., and from 1878 (R133/1a) in p. Pennal, co. Mer. From 1874 (R129/1a) onwards, property in Bishop's Castle, Shropshire, is included, and from 1877 (R132/1a) onwards, property in p. Tilston, Cheshire.

Encroachments in the manors of Cyfeiliog and Arwystli

The collection comprises property in the manor of Cyfeiliog (p's Machynlleth, Cemais, Llanwrin and Llanbryn-mair), and the manor of Arwystli (p. Llangurig), all in co. Mont. From 1878 (R133/1b) onwards, property in p's Darowen and Penegoes (Manor of Cyfeiliog) and p. Llandinam (Manor of Arwystli) are included. From 1885 (R140/1b) onwards, property in p. Carno (Manor of Arwystli) is included. Property in p. Penegoes (Manor of Cyfeiliog) is omitted after 1891 (R146/1b). Collector: Owen Hughes, 1874-1880. 'Rents for sporting'

The collection comprises lands in the manors of Cyfeiliog and Arwystli, and in p. Trawsfynydd, co. Mer. Lands in p. Llangurig, co. Mont., are mentioned from 1886 (R141/1c) onwards. Lands in p. Llangywer, co. Mer., mentioned from 1892 (R147/1c) onwards. Lands in p's Llangollen, Llandegla, Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd, Ruthin, and Llandysilio [yn-Iâl], co. Denb., and in p. Llanbryn-mair, co. Mont., and part of the Llwydiarth estate, contained in one or more of the volumes from 1894 (R149) onwards. Collector: Owen Hughes, 1874-1880. Mine rents and royalties

The collection comprises mines and quarries in cos Denb., Mont., Mer., and Salop. The mines and quarries are named but not the parishes in which they are situated. The rents specified below were due at various times throughout the year. Collector: Owen Hughes, 1877-1880. Tithe, chief and fee farm rentals

This collection comprises the following: (i) Wynnstay fee farm rents, comprising property in p's Wrexham, Ruabon, Erbistock, Llangollen, Llandisilio-yn-Iâl, Llanarmon-yn-Iâl, Llansanffraid Glyn Ceiriog, Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant. Erbistock is omitted from 1880, Llansanffraid from 1888, and Llanarmon from 1917. Wynnstay fee farm rents, 1860-1898, are also contained in the series of general rentals. (Ii) Ruthin fee farm rents, comprising property in p's Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd, Llanrhaiadr yng Nghinmeirch, Denbigh, Llangwm, and Ruthin. Llanfair is omitted from 1877, and Llanrhaiadr from 1880. Ruthin fee farm rents up to 1898 are also contained in the series of general rentals. (iii) Cynllaith Owain chief rents, comprising property in p. Llansilin (t's Lloran, Moelfre, Estynallan, Priddbwll, Sycharth, Rhiwlas). Estynallan and Sycharth are omitted from 1880, Moelfre from 1886, Rhiwlas from 1889, and Priddbwll from 1915. Cynllaith Owen chief rents, 1808-1896, are also contained in the series of general rentals, and also in the Llangedwyn estate rentals. Manor of Cyfeiliog chief rents, 1808-1898, are also contained in the series of general rentals. (vi) Llangurig parish tithes. Tithes for p. Llangurig (up to 1898) are also contained in the series of general rentals. (vii) Llanidloes parish tithes, comprising property in t's Brithdir, Cilmachallt, Hengynwydd, Treflyn. Tithes for p. Llanidloes (up to 1898) are also contained in the series of general rentals. (viii) Trefeglwys parish tithes, comprising property in t's Glyntrefnant and Esgeiredd, together with p. Llanbryn-mair. Tithes for p. Trefeglwys (up to 1898) are also contained in the series of general rentals. From 1866 (RB4) the Glan-llyn chief rents, collected at Michaelmas, are added, comprising property in p's Llanfor, Llanuwchllyn, Trawsfynydd, Llangywer, Llanycil, Llandrillo-yn-Edeirnion, Llanfihangel-y-traethau, and boats on Bala Lake. Boats on Bala Lake are omitted from 1874, property in Trawsfynydd and Llanfihangel-y-traethau are omitted from 1880, and in Llangywer from 1914. Glan-llyn chief rents up to 1898 are also contained in the series of general rentals. From 1890-1892 (RB14) Plas Madoc tithes, collected on 1 Jan., are added, comprising property in p. Ruabon (t. Cristionydd Cynrig). From RB17 (1899-1901) to RB21 (1911-13) the Cynllaith Owain chief rents are omitted. With regard to the covering dates in this series, the fee farm and chief rents were collected at Michaelmas and the tithes were collected on 1 Jan. The rental dated, for example 1893-1895, includes collection sheets for chief rents due Michaelmas 1892-1894 and tithe rents due 1 Jan. 1893-1895.

Anglesey title deeds,

Sparse series of deeds for properties on Anglesey, which appear to have belonged to the estates of Chwaen and Glasinfryn. The files describe properties in Beaumaris, Penmynydd and Pentraeth, 1595-1612; Llanbadrig and Llandysilio, 1605; Llanddona, 1594; Llan-faes, 1527; Llanfair Pwllgwyngyll, 1594-1595; Llanfair-yn-Neubwll and Treflesg, 1577-1603; Llanfihangel Ysgeifiog and Llanidan, Berw estate, 1656-1672; Llangoed and Penmon, 1509, 1580-1609; Llangwyllog, 1609; Llanrhuddlad, 1608; Llantrisant, 1598-1641; Newborough, 1607; Penmon Rectory and Millne Hely, 1642; and miscellaneous deeds, 1636.

Bangor and Maenol Bangor title deeds ,

Loose deeds and original tied bundles relating mainly to properties purchased by Richard Gwynne from William and Piers Gruffith of Penrhyn, together with others acquired by Sir John Wynn and Moris Wynn of Gwydir. The files describe miscellaneous properties in Bangor and Maenol Bangor, 1441-1615, 1785; miscellaneous properties in Crewedog and Tyllfaen, 1446-1617; Tythyn y Bryn Due in Crewedog and Tyllfaen, 1562-1579; Crewedog estate and lands in Crewedog, Tyllfaen, Pentir, etc., 1584-1614; miscellaneous properties in Tregwyr-rhyddion, 1595-1611; Tyddyn Dan Garreg y Walch, Aber-y-pwll, 1598-1612; properties in Bangor purchased by Richard Gwynne from William Gruffith, 1598-1617; Bryn Heylloke Ucha, Bryn Heylloke Issa etc. in Tregwyr-rhyddion and Llwydiarth, 1605-1609; and Tythyn Pen yr Allt and a parcel in Maes-y-felin, Aber-y-pwll, 1636.

Clynnog title deeds,

Title deeds concerning properties in the parish of Clynnog, Caernarfonshire, namely Tythyn y Kyme, Clynnog mills, Tythyn Jonet Gruffith and Tythyn Agnes, acquired by Richard Gwynne, 1518-1616, 1689; a messuage and lands in Brynbedde, 1519-1562; miscellaneous properties, 1539, 1600-1616; and Kay Davyd Lloyd, Kay Rhig and Kay yn y Serch, 1551-1570. Several of the deeds involve John ap David ap Howell ap Eignion and his son Maurice.

Conwy title deeds,

Title deeds relating to a tenement and orchard outside the town walls of Conwy, 1493-1585, and to the rectory and tithes of Conwy, 1610.

Llangernyw and Lanrwst title deeds,

Exemplification of a verdict concerning properties in the township of Garthgyfannedd near Llanrwst, Denbighshire, 1559; and deeds for Tyddyn y Rhiw in Pentre-wern, Llangernyw, 1609-1696, Tyddun yr Hendre, Tyddun y Glascwm, etc., Hafodunnos and Dwyafon, Llangernyw, 1655-1696, purchased by Sir John Wynn, and for Tu yn y Ddol, Pentre-wern, Llangernyw, 1739/40.

Llysfaen title deeds,

Title deeds for properties in the parish of Llysfaen in Caernarfonshire, acquired by Sir John Wynn of Gwydir through purchase and assignment from the descendants of Gruffith ap David ap Eingion, Hugh Lloyd and others. The files refer to a messuage in Llysfaen and Is-y-ffordd, 1563-1625; escheated lands in Llysfaen and Pen-maen, 1575; Kay Ffynnon y Gollen and Erw’r Onnen in Is-y-ffordd, 1590-1625; Parke, etc, Pennal, Eirias and Pen-maen, 1594-1610; Tythyn John Lewis ap Jeffrey in Pant, 1594-1616; Pwll Morkyn, Acker Lwyd, parcels in Tu Mawr, etc, Pen-maen, 1613, 1670; Llwyn Tervyn, Erow’r Person and Y Kyttyr, alias Kay’r Perthy in Llysfaen, 1619.
