Governor's Speeches

Typescripts of speeches given by Gordon Macdonald during his term as Governor of Newfoundland comprising speeches given at the unveiling of the Pouch Cove war memorial, University College, Signal Hill, the Agricultural and Industrial Fair at Harbour Grace, the Bible Society, Wesley Church, Cochrane Street war memorial, a nurses' graduation ceremony and his new year message along with an extract from The Times weekly edition.

File comprises maps and reports on the economy and local government in Newfoundland along with a typescript of an address entitled "Some economic aspects of government in Newfoundland" given by J. B. McEvoy on 21 March 1946.

Loose typescript speeches given by Gordon MacDonald during his term as Governor of Newfoundland including an address broadcast on the BBC North American Service as MacDonald departed the UK for Newfoundland in 1946 and speeches given at the opening of the extension to Bowater's plant at Corner Brook and on the eve of his departure from Newfoundland in 1949. The file also contains a speech given by the Hon Herman William Quinton on the National Network (radio) on the eve of the Canadian Federal election.
