Also a draft application by Matthew Hegarty of Aberystwyth University for a Knowledge Economy Skills Scholarship (KESS) for an MPhil student to assess the impact of introgression of continental birds on the diversity of the Welsh kite population since Dr Celia May's 1980s study, [post 2009].

Includes a letter to R.S. Thomas asking him to be a patron of the new trust, and his reply declining the offer, Jan. 1997.

The photocopies are from books dated 1834 (Robert Mudie, 'The feathered tribes of the British Isles') to 1989 (Lorand & Atkin, 'The birds of Lincolnshire and South Humberside').

Lists of 'gled', 'kit' and 'puttock' placenames from the Ordnance Survey 1:50,000 Gazetteer, 4th ed., 1999; lists of latest breeding record or presence by county, statements on the distribution of kites in British bird books published at least 1802-1959; extracts relating to kites from county histories, faunas and ornithologies, including the 'Victoria County History' for England and the 'Old' and 'New Statistical Accounts' for Scotland. Also several references to kites in archaeological sites and churchwardens' accounts.

Card., including maps of nest sites, 1947-1972, the policy of "playing down" the Hafod kite population (see also E 8), forestry operations, Kite Committee voluntary wardens, the Caravan Club site at Hafod Old Mansion, 1972-1974, and the sale of the Hafod Arms Hotel, with the sporting rights over the old Hafod estate, 1980.
