Central government papers,

Official papers deriving from administrative procedures of central government, dated between 1581 and 1887, consisting of manuscript copies and published versions of speeches, addresses and official letters, Acts of Parliament, petitions and cases, proclamations, lists of ministers and MPs, and miscellaneous other political papers. The majority originate from the second half of the seventeenth century, giving an instructive view of the relations between the Stuart monarchs and their respective parliaments, against a background of political unrest and religious dissension. Recurrent themes include the Dutch invasion, the accession and policies of William III, Jacobite resistance, Protestant religion, European wars, taxation, home and foreign trade, and national finance.

Charles Francis Powys papers

Papers of, or in the possession of, the Rev. Charles Francis Powys, father of John Cowper Powys, comprising personal papers; letters from family members and other correspondents; personal and family estate documents; and papers of various family members, namely his brother Major Littleton Albert Powys, his wife Mary Cowper Powys and her sisters, and his parents Littleton Charles and Amelia Powys.

Chartist riots in Montgomeryshire

Papers, almost all correspondence with a few examinations, depositions, orders, etc., relating to the Chartist riots in Montgomeryshire. Most of the correspondence is either letters sent to Viscount Clive, who was lord lieutanant of Montgomeryshire when the riots broke out, by Lord John Russell, magistrates, local attorneys, military officers, etc., or draft or copies of letters sent by Clive, including to Lord John Russell. The papers relate to the riots themselves, more especially to enlisting the aid of the military and, to a lesser extent, to the prosecution of the rioters. All the letters are dated between 1838 and 1839 except the first letter, dated 1831, and the final two letters, dated 1842 and 1892, the latter enclosing a document relating to the riots.
