Letters, 1691-1909, of miscellaneous provenance, to and from bishops, mostly of Welsh dioceses, and other dignitaries relating mainly to social, personal and church matters. Among the correspondents are John Randolph, bishop of Bangor (1) [c. 1807]; Edward Copleston (1) 1844, Joshua Pritchard Hughes (1) 1909, Richard Lewis (1) 1901, Alfred Ollivant (4) 1849-1858, and John Shipley (1) 1769, bishops of Llandaf; John Owen (3) 1897-1899, and Connop Thirlwall (7) 1845-1871, bishops of St Davids; Edmund Gibson, bishop of London (2) 1731; Samuel Butler, headmaster of Shrewsbury School, later bishop of Lichfield (2) 1834; and Cardinal Herbert Vaughan, archbishop of Westminster (3) 1886-1893. Also included is a letter, 1790, from Selina Hastings, countess of Huntingdon.

Over one hundred and twenty letters, 1801-1848, mainly addressed to Edward Copleston, provost of Oriel College, Oxford, and bishop of Llandaf. The correspondents include such public figures as Henry Brougham (5) 1827-1839, Lord Grenville (6) 1809-1827, Robert Peel (6) 1824-1841, and William Wilberforce (3) 1827-1828. Some forty-five letters, 1819-1840, to Edward Copleston , provost of Oriel College, Oxford, and bishop of Llandaf, together with a transcript of a letter, 1851, to his nephew W. J. Copleston. Many of the correspondents are prominent literary, ecclesiastical or political figures and include Henry Brougham (2) [1830s], Maria Edgeworth (1) 1831, Lord Grenville (3) 1827-1833, and Sir Walter Scott (1) 1829. Some fifty letters, 1837-1841, to Henry Evans ('Harri Ddu o Ddyfed'), secretary of the Cambrian Society, Cardiff, on subjects of Welsh antiquarian and Cymreigyddion interest; together with notes gathered by Evans and verses by or concerning him. The correspondents include Edward Copleston, bishop of Llandaf (2) 1838, Thomas Phillipps, Middle Hill (7) 1837-39, Thomas Price ('Carnhuanawc') (3) 1837, Rice Rees, Llandovery (6) 1837-9, and William Williams, Aberpergwm (3) 1837-39.

Miles and Edwards, Oxford Street, London, 1843; [Edward Copleston], bishop of Llandaff, 1846 (declining support for a candidate at an election); Fitz Roy James Henry Somerset, 1st baron Raglan, 1853 (declining an invitation to dinner); Richard Henry Fitz Roy Somerset, 2nd baron Raglan, Great Malvern, 1865 (declining an invitation to dine); Lady Henrietta Anna Howard, countess dowager of Carnarvon, to Messrs. Hindley & Sons [1871] (an order for chintz for Pixton Park, Dulverton); Lady Mary Windsor Clive, St. Fagans Castle, Cardiff, to Messrs. Hindley [& Sons], 1872; Lady Elizabeth Herbert [wife of Sidney Herbert, 1st baron Herbert of Lea, P.C.], to Messrs. Hindley [& Sons], 1873; together with a certificate by William Cleaver, bishop of Chester [bishop of Bangor, 1800-06, and of St. Asaph, 1806-15], dated at Oxford, 1792, that John Marshall, clerk, was licensed to the curacy of Leek in Tunstall.

Papers, 1703-[1900], of the Copleston family, mainly comprising correspondence of Edward Copleston, provost of Oriel College, Oxford, and bishop of Llandaf. MSS 22718-21 are apparently in the hand of his nephew, the Reverend W. J. Copleston.

An album of 'memoranda, made to the year 1857', together with copious annotations and an index, by Richard Rees (born 1781) of Alltycham, Pontardawe, seventh child by the second marriage of Josiah Rees (1744-1804), Unitarian minister, of Gellionnen, parish of Llan-giwg (Llanguicke), Glamorgan. The volume consists largely of holograph letters addressed for the most part to Richard Rees, the writers including Josiah Rees, 1802-3 (relating partly to the church at Gellionnen); William Wyndham Grenville, baron Grenville, 1818 (a description of the writer's home at Dropmore, information concerning Neath Abbey); George Owen Rees, Guy's Hospital, London, 1846 (biographical notes on the writer's father, Josiah Rees); C[hristopher] R[ice] M[ansel] T[albot], London, 1848; C[onnop Thirlwall], bishop of St. Davids, 1848; Geo. Rice Trevor, aft. 4th baron Dynevor, 1838 (concerning Neath Abbey); John M. Traherne, Coedriglan, Cardiff, 1848; [Edward Copleston, bishop of Llandaff, 1848]; [Sir Thomas Phillipps, Middle Hill, 1848]; H[enry] Hussey Vivian, London, 1855 (the death of John Henry Vivian); etc. The miscellaneous documents contained in the volume include material towards a pedigree of the family of Rees of Gelligron; the certificate of ordination of Josiah Rees at Gellionnen, 6 August, 1767; poetry and ballads, including an epigram by Thomas Rees, fifth child of Josiah Rees by his second marriage and an 'englyn' to Richard Rees; newspaper cuttings, including obituary notices of Josiah Rees, 1804, Mary Rees, his widow, 1829, Owen Rees of Gelligron, 1837, and Sarah Rees, daughter of Josiah Rees, 1851; copies of letters of Richard Rees, 1846; etc.
Amongst the references are those to the election and admission of Richard Rees for Morden College, Blackheath; the Smith family of Castellau, Glamorgan; the Penllergaer estate, Swansea; and the experiences of an emigrant to Australia, 1843.
