A manuscript largely in the hand of Mary Richards, Darowen containing 'Llyma ddeall y pader ynghymraeg' ('o lawysgrifen ar femrwn cyn 1600'); 'Copi o Ramadeg Gymrae[g] rhai a ddywed Gramadeg Coronwy Owain y dechreu yn eisie'); 'cywyddau', 'englynion' and some 'penillion' by Robin ddu, Dafydd Gorllech, Guttun Owain ('Meredith ab Rhys medd eraill'), Sion Philip, Sypyn Cyfeiliog, Edmund Prys, William Philip, Howel Bedo, Owen Gryffudd, Edward Morys, Owen Robert, Hugh Morys, William Elias, Dafydd ap Gwilim, John Rogers, Ifan Tew Brydydd and Bedo Brwynllys, and anonymous poetry, the greater part of the poetry by Owen Gruffydd and copied 'o Lyfyr Owen Gruffydd'; there are later verses by 'Dewi ab Ioan', (Blaen Afon), David Charles [Carmarthen], Thomas Jones (Maes y Cerndi), J. Blackwell ['Alun'] and [David Richards] ('D[ewi] Silin'); and a copy of a letter from W[alter] Davies ['Gwallter Mechain'], 1817 (the establishment in Montgomeryshire of an Auxiliary Society in aid of the British and Foreign Bible Society). The manuscript is in the form of two books, of which one was partly used, c. 1820, by 'J. H. M. L.' to record 'Adnotationes quaedam admodum miscellaniae', including a list of titles of Welsh airs, a list of Welsh expressions and their English equivalents and notes on the accidence of the Welsh language. Used as the upper end paper is a fragment of an 18th century answer of Christopher Welcker the elder, one of the defendants to the bill of complaint of Wm. Sherlock and Frances, his wife, and James Blundell and Mary, his wife, complainants.

A volume originally used largely by the Reverend Thomas Richards, Darowen as an account book, 1821-6, of the Darowen Auxiliary of the Society for Promoting Christianity among the Jews ('Cymdeithas Gynnorthwyol ir Iuddewon' or 'Cyfaill Israel'). The Auxiliary Society was established on 12 January 1821 and the account book contains rules, lists of officers, particulars of individual subscriptions (and of collections previously made during the period 1816-20), and copies of letters of acknowledgment of annual contributions to the parent Society. The remainder, and by far the greater part, of the volume was subsequently used largely by Mary Richards to record transcripts of 'carolau', 'englynion', 'cywyddau', hymns, etc. by Hugh Jones (Maesglase), W. Thomas, John Morris, Aneurin Owain, Walter Davies ('Gwallter Mechain'), Sion Philip, Dafydd Rhys (Llanbryn Mair), [John Jones] 'Tegid', John William (Dolgellau), Thomas Jones (Creaton), Robert Davies (Nantglyn), William Wynne ('Person Llancanhafal'), Joseph Marpole, [?Thomas Roberts] ('Cyfell Cadfan' (1799), 'Philo Cadfan'), Cadwaladr Dafydd (Llan y Mowddwy), Owen Robert, David William [?Llandeilo Fach], David Harris (?Carno), Dafydd Jones ['Dafydd Siôn Siâms'] 'Dafydd ab Ioan' ('rhwymwr Llyfrau Penrhyn Deutraeth'), Rowland Hugh (Grienyn), David Ellis ('Dafydd Elis Gof Llan y Mowddwy'), D. There are references in the volume to a number of manuscript sources, viz. p. 59 'o Lyfr Edward Jones Gwernphilip Llan Badarn fawr Sir Aberteifi', p. 107 'Copiwyd allan o hen lyfr Moelyrch 1868', p. 132 [recte 232] 'o Lyfr Llangadfan, and p. 237 'o Lyfr Llangadfan, neu Garth Beibio'.

Inside the lower cover is a printed announcement of the formation of Chester Cymmrodorion Society, 1822.

A collection of 'cerddi', 'carolau', etc. by Hugh Morris, together with a 'cerdd' by Huw Jones, Llangwm, a 'cerdd' by the Reverend Walter Davies ['Gwallter Mechain'], anonymous 'englynion, 'carolau' and some financial accounts, 1805 and undated. The volume is in the hand of Huw Jones, Llangwm, with a few later additions by Elizabeth Maurice and by Mary Richards, Darowen. It belonged to Thomas Powel, 1804, and Martha Powel, 1805, and also bears the names of Henry Powel, 1756, John Jones, carpenter, Pentregayr [Oswestry] and Martha Edwards.

A composite volume of the second quarter of the eighteenth century containing English poetry (eclogues, epigrams and epitaphs); Latin poetry (extracts from Cato, Virgil and Ovid, epitaphs and epigrams); and Welsh poetry largely in free metres. The Welsh poems are generally anonymous but some of them, as well as one of the English epitaphs, are assigned to John Morys (Maurice) (1736-47), and there are single compositions by Humph[rey] Owen, B[ardd] C[wsg] (1732), J[ohn] R[hydderch], E[van] W[illiam] and Owen Griff[ydd] (1733). An addition to the volume contains a poem in Welsh by 'Gilielmus Didymus' (1755). . Inscribed in the hand of Mary Richards, Darowen on the inside upper cover: 'Pwy a ddwyn hwn Bydd ei ran gyda Lladron yn Dragwyddol'.

Two volumes in the hand of Mary Richards, Darowen consisting largely of transcripts of poetry from manuscripts then in the Llansilin Collection (e.g. Cwrtmawr MSS 204, 206-7, 227, 238, 242-3). Other transcripts in the collection are items from 'copy o un [o] lyfrau Maesglase, Mallwyd', including 'Merddin ai dywaid', 'Taliesin ai traethoedd', Merddin ai Traethodd', 'Taliesin ai Traethodd', and 'Merddin a Gwenddydd'. Two notebooks (pasted together) of the Reverend John Lloyd Richards (1790-1854), vicar of Llanwddyn containing 'Subjects for [weekly] themes given by Mr Ainger for 1821', '...[L]ines ... set up in a neat frame in the room at the Pavilion by the falls of the Clyde in Scotland', 1817; verses by R. Davies entitled 'I Bedwar Rhan y Flwyddyn'; prose texts entitled 'The Number Seven', 'English Language' and 'Esau and Jacob'; verses entitled 'Happiness' by the present Bp. of Calcutta. Dr. Heber'; personal accounts, 1821-31 (expenses at St Bees College and at Nun Monkton, payments to hired servants, receipts of rent etc.); etc. The scribe's sister, Mary Richards, during the period 1870-3 has used blank spaces to record copious memoranda, anecdotes and transcripts of verse and family letters.

A volume labelled 'Llyfr Cerddi William Morgan', being a collection largely of poetry compiled during the late seventeenth and early eighteenth century by William Morgan (died 1728), Plassegwynio[n], Llanymawddwy, Merioneth. It contains 'Yr Eisteddfod ynghaerwys ... y 26 o fis May yn y nawfed flwyddyn o deyrnasiad y fre[n]hines Elizabeth ...' '), a list of subscribers towards a bardic chair to be presented to Walter Davies ['Gwallter Mechain'] (the chair was to be made of Montgomeryshire oak, 'after the model of that which he filled with so much credit to himself at the late eisteddfod at Carmarthen'), 1820 (with a memorandum of payment of £3 to Mr Clayton of Kerry, 1821), a short account of an ascent of Aran [Fawddwy] made by M[ary] Richards and others, 1800; etc. The volume is written from both ends. Among the items mounted on the inside covers and fly-leaves are printed verses in memory of Mrs [Jane] Lewis, wife of R[oderick] Lewis, vicar of Llanbrynmair, 1828.

The volume was largely compiled during the years 1855-60 but there are some later entries dated to 1871. Among the insets and the items mounted on the inside covers is a pen-and-ink portrait of Thomas Richard[s], Darowen.
