Miscellaneous papers and fragments containing notes, transcripts, lists, copies of his own poems, etc., by Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg') bound together in one volume. The contents include holograph copies of Welsh poems by Edward Williams himself using the bardic names 'Iolo Morganwg', 'I[orwer] th G[wili]m', and 'Ior[wer]th Morganwg'; transcripts of Welsh strict- and free-metre poems (often incomplete) including single stanzas attributed to Huw Morus and Edward Morus (pp. 60, 65), a few stanzas attributed to Gronwy Owain (p. 78), and an 'englyn' attributed to Iorwerth Fynglwyd (p. 141), etc.; a short list of Welsh names of 'different sorts of grass or hay in Glam[organ]' (p. 32); a short list of 'Glum[organ] proverbs' (p. 42 ); draft copies or transcripts of the words of two English election songs written in connection with a parliamentary election in co. A miscellany of prose and verse lettered 'Pigion' but known as 'Y Gell Gymysg', most of it in the hand of Thomas Evans ('Tomos Glyn Cothi'), minister, poet and author, but with 'Trioedd yr Offeiriad', on pp. 209-14, by and in the autograph of Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg'). Also included are poems by Edward Richard, Ystrad Meurig, William Moses ('neu Gwilim Tew, o Glyn Tâf'), Howel Prichard, Edward Evans, Ton Coch, Lewis Hopkin, William Harr[i], Llwyn-onn, William Davies (alias 'Wm. A mid-eighteenth century collection of 'cerddi', 'ymddiddanion', etc. by H[uw] M[orys], together with a few poems by Thomas Edwards ['Twm o'r Nant'], Dav[id] Shadrach, David Thomas ('o sir Garen[ar]fon') Thos. Jones (Maes y Cernddi 'in Cowny' [sic]), and anonymous poems, farm accounts and memoranda, 1773-6, and a veterinary recipe. The volume is written in three main hands, of which the third is that of Dav[id] Shadrach.

The manuscript is written in several hands, among them that of Richard Foulks.

A volume containing miscellany of prose and verse items in the hand of Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg'), divided into three sections each described on its 'title-page' as 'Brith y Coed sef cynnulliad cymmysg o hen Bethau Cymreig Rhyddiaith a Phrydyddiaeth Cynnulliad Iolo Morganwg'. These three sections are numbered Rhifyn 1, 11, 111 respectively. Bbcs ii, 9]; 'Agoriad byr Ar weddi'r Arglwydd' (partly in verse); an imperfect text of 'Chwedlau Odo' ('Dammhegion a scrifenwyd ar femrwn ynghylch y flwyddyn, oedran Crist, 1300'); an account in Welsh of some of the feast days, written after 1660 in an unusual orthography, 'Hynod betheu Iessu Xt. ar ei ddiwedd'; verses entitled 'Ymgomio rhwn [sic] y claf o'r Darfodedigaeth Ai Glwyf' attributed in a later hand to Hugh Moris, and 'Dyriau a wnaed wrth : 139 : psalm Ar Fessur arall'; 'Carolau a Dyriau Duwiol' [cf. Carolau a Dyriau Duwiol (1696), pp. 5-11, 14-34]; Scriptural references; sermon notes (in English); hymn stanzas; and copies of one or two parish certificates and other documents,' c. 1709-10, in which the parishes of Llangynog and Llanllawddog, Carmarthenshire and Cilcennin, Cardiganshire are mentioned. There is some confusion in the pagination here and there: e.g. p. 79 should follow p. 10 and p. 83 should follow p. 76. The end-papers are a folio from a seventeenth century printed book. Inset at the beginning of the volume is a letter, 1924, from D. Lleufer Thomas, Whitchurch, Glamorgan to J. H. [Davies] concerning the manuscript, and a slip of paper with notes in the autograph of J. H. Davies.

A notebook in the hand of J. H. Davies containing an alphabetical index of first lines of poetry by Huw Morys published in W[alter] D[avies] ['Gwallter Mechain'], Eos Ceiriog (Wrexham, 1823), with a few subsequent additions from Cwrtmawr MSS 222, 224 and from Carolau a Dyriau Duwiol ([Shrewsbury] 1696).

Transcripts' (1-13); a list of thirty-one items headed 'Hen Ysgriflyfrau' being apparently manuscript volumes in the aforementioned Edward Williams’'s possession (15-16; many of these items can be identified amongst the Llanover manuscripts now being described); a list of titles of ? Holograph letters from [the Rev.] Walter Davies (Gwallter Mechain) to Daniel Jones, Wrexham, 182[ ]-1825 (2) (points relating to the publishing of the writer's two-volume edition [?of the poetical works of Huw Morus, viz. Eos Ceiriog, sef Casgliad o Ber Ganiadau Huw Morus . . . (Yn Ngwrecsam, 1823)], the writer's doubts as to the wisdom of publishing an unrevised edition of the metrical psalms of Edmwnd Prys, a suggestion that opinions on this point be sought through the columns of Y Gwyliedydd, criticisms that some of Prys's lines were stiff ('anystwyth hynod') and did not lend themselves to any measure, references to Titus Lewis's edition of Prys's psalms [Pigion o Salmau Canu yn ôl cyfansoddiad Edmwnd Prys (Caerfyrddin, 1810)], the belief that Lewis had introduced some changes into some of the psalms), and [John] Painter [printer, Wrexham], 1821-1825 (2) (points relating to the publishing of vol.
