Local Elections

The group consists of election addresses and leaflets and some administrative papers, 1952-1999, concerning the convention of county and district council elections in various parts of Wales.

Letters, almost all to John Johnes (d. 1781) and his son John Johnes (d. 1815). They are mainly concerned with estate and financial matters, including John Johnes's purchase of Dolaucothi from Thomas Johnes of Hafod in 1790, and his dealings with Thomas Johnes's mother concerning the Dolaucothi purchase. Arranged chronologically according to sender.

Letters, mainly from Thomas Johnes (d. 1780) of Croft Castle and Ludlow to his brother John Johnes (d. 1781) of Dolaucothi. Also included are six letters from Mrs Elizabeth Johnes of Croft Castle (V 10/66-71) and one from Mrs Grace Johnes (V 10/72). They concern personal, financial, estate and election matters. Some loose letters have been added to this volume, and the contents renumbered accordingly. Arranged chronologically according to sender. See also V 14, comprising letters from T. Johnes to J. Welsh Executive Committee

The group contains Communist Party of Great Britain Welsh Executive Committee agendas, minutes, and related papers [1958]-1991; with papers relating to the Welsh Committee, to branches in South Wales, to the Wales District and to the Wales Secretariat. Some files include correspondence, press releases, leaflets, material relating to elections, and party education; and occasionally material relating to membership, officers and finance.

Printed material

The group consists of newspaper cuttings, 1921-1998, copies of 'Party News' and other newsletters, 1943-1987, papers relating to the South Wales Bookshop, 1884-1991, and drafts and copies of Cyffro and Moving Left in Wales, 1964-1983.

Subject files

The group includes files of miscellaneous accumulated material relating to the Communist Party, Welsh affairs, devolution, the labour movement, social issues and miscellaneous subjects. They include material produced by the Communist Party Great Britain or Communist Party Wales District, and also documents relating to particular subjects of interest. Some may be research files created by Bert Pearce while preparing an article or leaflet. Most of the files contain information relating to a variety of subjects and only the most significant subjects are noted in the description. They may also occasionally contain minutes of committee meetings, election leaflets, information leaflets, publications, magazines, reports, correspondence, or notes. The dates are often wide ranging since they contain accumulated documents and publications relating to a subject.

Papers concerning life and education

The section comprises secondary school reports, 1929-1936, a university certificate and related letters, 1979-1981, newspaper and magazine articles written about Condry during his lifetime, 1973-1992, obituaries, letters of condolence to his widow, other memorials and tributes, 1998-2020.
