Agendas,

Printed agendas of half yearly district meetings which were held in January and July, at the town hall in Aberystwyth. The January meeting was always the annual general meeting.

Reports,

Printed reports of the half yearly, annual and special committees. All except A3/1/1 include the report of the District Auditor together with accounts of the Funeral and Management Funds.

Resolution books, [minute books],

Minute books of the annual, half-yearly and district management committee meetings. The meetings nominated, elected and installed new officers; discussed and tried to resolve record keeping irregularities by lodges, arrears of payments to Funds, appeals of individual members against expulsion or non-payment of sickness benefit by individual lodges and appointment of delegates to the AMC (Annual Moveable Conference), and adoption and amendments of District Rules. The volumes also include names of officers and delegates; addresses of the Provincial Grand Master to members, 1893-1915; reports of the District Auditors, which include lists of members receiving benefits by each lodge; table of members in each lodge; numbers of new members inititated together with their age; number of members who have died or left the lodges, etc.; accounts of the treasurer, giving details of funeral fund and management fund, paid in by and spent by each lodge and a copy of some incoming and outgoing letters. For 1915 there are also minutes of meetings of Management District Committee and special committee meetings to discuss amalgamation with the Dolgellau District. The reports of the district examiners were not minuted but published in printed reports of the meetings.

Resolution books [minute books],

Minute books giving the names of officers and delegates present; names of officers nominated, elected and installed; resolutions relating to the adoption of Rules; appointment of delegates to AMC; fines imposed by the Manchester Unity for non-payment of monies to Funds and late transmission of Returns; and accounts of receipts and expenditures of the Funeral and District Management Funds arranged by lodges.

Gwalia District Special Rules and partial amendments, 1917, 1921, 1928 and 1940, and Rules of the Ystwyth Juvenile Society, [post 1926].

Funeral benefits register,

The register gives the name and Lodge of the deceased, including widows and wives of members; age at death and amount of funeral benefit paid. Causes of death are given in all cases from 1940 onwards.

Registers of members,

The registers contain the name and Lodge membership number of each member, date of birth, date of initiation and date of marriage, name and (where appropriate) date of death of member's wife, details of benefits and contributions, and reason for cessation of membership, either lapsed or dead. Most files include an index and include details about members who joined from 1882.

National Insurance District cash book,

Cash book recording receipts for monies for payment of administrative expenses and benefits to claimants and of payments of administrative expenses to Lodge secretaries and of benefit money to be paid by them to claimants. From May 1915 until January 1920 the names of claimants are given.

Agendas,

Printed agendas of the annual and half yearly meetings of the Gwalia District. The meetings were held at Aberystwyth, Machynlleth and Dolgellau. There are two copies of the agenda for the meeting held on 21 June 1930, one of which has been annotated by the District Secretary.

Annual reports,

Printed reports of the half yearly meeting held in July 1921 and of the annual meeting held in Jan. 1930. The reports incluce names of officers and delegates, motions discussed and accounts of various Funds. The annual report also includes an account of monies received from the Lodges listed by Funds, and the membership of each Lodge.

Minute books,

Minute books, originally called Resolution books, contain minutes of annual, half yearly and district management committee meetings. The minutes include the names of the officers and delegates of lodges present; resolutions discussed relating to auditors' reports, quinquennial valuations and recommendations of the Board of Directors of the M.U.F.S.; the administration of individual Lodges, including disciplinary proceedings for non-compliance with the Order's Rules; late returns of financial statements and accounts; not forwarding records for examination within the prescribed time; financial problems, including Fund deficiencies and varying of rates and levies of Lodges; accounts of payments authorised by the District to Lodges; authorisation for payments by the District Treasurer; appointment of delegates to the Annual Moveable Conference; and appeals from individual members against decisions made by their Lodges.

Cash books,

Cash books containing details of monies received by the District from the Unity and from payments to Funds and of levies by the lodges, and of expenditure, mainly administrative and funeral claims.

Receipts and expenditure books,

Receipt and expenditure books containing details of cash received from lodges and of payments to lodges or to head office. The details are arranged under the different types of Funds, sick and funeral, management, distress, Unity reserve, Orphan Gift, Unity Pension, etc., apart from the first section in GA6/1 which lists contributions and levies received according to individual lodges from 1927 to 1930.
