Biographical history
The registers were ordered to be set up following the Annual Moveable Conference held at Leamington in 1920 with the intention that they should serve as the basis for quinquennial valuations. The registers were kept in the custody of the District Secretary. The original register, i.e. of members in 1921, was compiled by Lodge secretaries. When membership lapsed or when new members joined, the District Secretary made the necessary adjustments based on information provided by Lodge secretaries.

Scope and content
The registers contain the name and Lodge membership number of each member, date of birth, date of initiation and date of marriage, name and (where appropriate) date of death of member's wife, details of benefits and contributions, and reason for cessation of membership, either lapsed or dead. Most files include an index and include details about members who joined from 1882.

The registers have been rearranged at NLW into their individual lodges as they had been separated and randomly placed into the ring binders. They are now arranged by lodges in order of the date of initiation/clearance as per GB5/1, Instructions on the compilation of a register.
