A manuscript volume with the title 'AMRYW' in gold lettering on the spine. Written throughout by William Owen [-Pughe], the manuscript contains transcripts of parts of two older manuscripts, the one in the hand of Lewis Morris [B.M. Add. MS 14908, ff. 36-58], and the other in the hand of Owen Jones, 'Owain Myfyr' [B.M. Add. MS 15020, pp. 1-5, 7-12, 27-8, 33- 5, 44-5, 52-8, 67-70, 93-107, 109-15, 117-23]. The first item in the present manuscript, pp. 1-39, is a transcript of the Statute of Rhuddlan, 'Ystatus Rhuddlan yw hon. A.D. 1283', copied from Lewis Morris's manuscript, which is in turn a copy of a vellum manuscript in the Hengwrt library, which he transcribed in 1738 [i.e. Peniarth MS 41]. The remainder of the present manuscript is copied from B.M. Add. Miscellaneous papers and note-books containing notes, extracts, transcripts, lists, etc., in the hand of Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg') bound together in one volume. The contents of pp. 53-60, 73, 75, 86-9, 91, 143-206, 209-17, 233-8, and 279-90 consist mainly of lists or groups of Welsh words and phrases sometimes with English definitions and/or illustrative excerpts from the works of Welsh poets. Some of these lists or groups contain words extracted from one source such as poems by, or attributed to, Taliesin, or to be found in 'The Book of Taliesin', John Bunyan: Taith y Pererin, William Wotton: Cyfreithieu Hywel Dda . . . (London, 1730), etc. P. 13 is inscribed 'Glynn Papers 1821. Customs of the Manor of the Lordship of Coity Wallia. From a Copy in the Hand Writing of Richard Jenkins, Esqr., of Hensol Castle, Glamorgan, 1714', and is followed (pp. 17-27) by an incomplete copy of the presentments of a jury of survey for the lordship and manor of Coyty Wallia aforesaid [co. Glamorgan], 1631 [/2]. A manuscript containing poetry (pp. 5-18, 42-162), the poets cited including Iolo Goch, Dafydd ap Gwilym, Guto'r Glyn, Siôn Cent and Iorwerth Fynglwyd; apocryphal gospels (pp. 21-31); 'y Discibl ar Athro', which includes a brief summary of the Elucidarium (pp. 32-35); &c.
The manuscript is in several hands, with a few later additions to the text. Pp. 5-15 l. 6, 77-99 l. 9, 115-122, 131-136, 161-162 are in the same hand. The manuscript is sewn into a piece of old parchment dated 1647. Poetic marginalia occur at pp. 13, 77, 81, 82, 83, 85, 87, 93, 97, 103, 131, 146, 151. The work beginning at p. 108 is in the autograph of Rhys Cain or that of his son, Siôn Cain. The work beginning at p. 112 is apparently in the autograph of Siôn Clywedog (cf. an autograph englyn by Siôn Clywedog in the margin of p. 127). The work beginning at p. 144 appears to be in the autograph of Lewys Dwnn - cf. a note in the same hand relating to the work beginning at p. 139.
